Product Features
- Art line for a high level of artistic expression
Sigma's interchangeable lenses are categorized into three product lines, Contemporary, Art, and Sports, each based on a clear concept. The Art line, in particular, has been developed by focusing all design elements on the highest optical performance and rich expressiveness to achieve a high level of artistic expression. With its overwhelming descriptive performance that meets the most demanding standards, the Art line is ideal for landscapes, portraits, still-life, close-ups, and snaps, as well as for creating photographs with an artist's flair. It can also be used for studio photography to create the world of an artwork, as well as for expression in all genres, including architecture and celestial objects.
- Unparalleled descriptive performance
Aberrations are thoroughly corrected using the know-how accumulated through past development and the latest design technology. The lens delivers overwhelming descriptive performance with high resolution all the way to the periphery of the image.
- Achieves both high resolution and bokeh effect
While pursuing resolution in the area in focus, care was taken to maintain a soft bokeh before and after the focus area. To achieve high resolution, aberrations that affect image quality, such as sagittal coma flare and chromatic aberration, are thoroughly corrected. The lens delivers blur-free, high-definition images from the widest aperture setting. In addition, the lens has been designed to minimize aperture erosion while thoroughly minimizing color blurring before and after focusing to achieve a natural bokeh effect.
- Excellent correction of sagittal coma flare
Ideally, a large-aperture standard lens should be able to deliver high descriptive performance from wide open to the entire image range. For example, glass-molded aspherical lenses in the rear group thoroughly compensate for sagittal coma flare, in which the image of a point light source does not converge on a single point and appears as if it has a tail. The lens also minimizes blurring of point light sources on the periphery of the image, making it ideal for shooting celestial objects and illumination. It is also ideal for portraits and indoor shots that take advantage of beautiful bokeh.
- Correction of Axial Chromatic Aberration
To correct axial chromatic aberration, which is difficult to correct with image processing, SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass is used to achieve high image quality in all shooting ranges. Sharp and high-contrast images can be obtained.
- Thoroughly Corrects Distortion
Distortion, which causes distortion of straight lines, cannot be corrected by stopping down the lens, so it must be corrected from the lens design stage. 50mm F1.4 DG HSM is designed so that each lens has a symmetrical power configuration from front to back, and distortion is thoroughly corrected right to the edges of the image. The 50mm F1.4 DG HSM has a wide range of peripheral light intensity.
- Abundant peripheral illumination
The lens also has sufficient peripheral illumination, which tends to be reduced with large-aperture lenses. The front group lens has a larger aperture to improve aperture efficiency. This minimizes light falloff at the periphery of the image, resulting in a uniform image across the entire image range. You can enjoy the open bokeh effect without worrying about insufficient light when shooting with a wide-open aperture, such as under a blue sky.
- Minimum focusing distance of 40 cm
The floating system, in which several lens groups in the optical system are focused at different amounts of extension, achieves a minimum focusing distance of 40 cm and a maximum magnification of 1:5.6. This system suppresses aberration variation with shooting distance and delivers high descriptive performance at all shooting distances.
