Product Features
- A large-aperture F1.4 telephoto lens from the Contemporary line. Enjoy the pleasure of a full-fledged large-aperture lens on an easy-to-use mirrorless system.
Sigma has offered the 16mm F1.4 DC DN Contemporary wide-angle lens and the standard 30mm F1.4 DC DN Contemporary as part of the F1.4 DC DN series. The third in the series is the 56mm F1.4 DC DN Contemporary, the smallest medium telephoto in its class. By incorporating the latest technology, we have created a lens that allows users to enjoy the brightness and bokeh volume of F1.4 even in the mid-telephoto range, while maintaining the Contemporary line's concept of combining high optical performance and compactness. The long-awaited large-aperture series of wide-angle, standard, and medium-telephoto lenses is now complete, and can be easily taken out and about.
- Comfortable AF for movie shooting
The optical design for movie AF and the stepping motor enable quiet and natural focus work during autofocusing. The Sony E-mount also supports Fast Hybrid AF for excellent tracking performance. The camera's face recognition and pupil AF functions allow the camera to keep the face and pupils in focus even if the subject moves during shooting.
- Highly accurate and robust brass bayonet mount
The brass mount combines high precision and robustness. To ensure that the lens can withstand long-term use, a surface treatment has been applied to increase its strength and ensure high-quality lens production.
- High image quality comparable to the Art line and compact size
The lens was designed with the assumption that the camera's in-camera correction function would be used for vignetting and distortion to achieve a compact size, and the use of SLD glass not only reduces the size of the lens, but also provides excellent correction for axial chromatic aberration, which is difficult to correct using image processing. The lens is designed to be both compact and lightweight, while providing excellent image quality.
- Flare and Ghosting
Thorough measures against flare and ghosting were taken from the initial stage of lens design to minimize the effects of strong incident light, such as backlighting. The Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting and provides high-contrast images even when shooting in backlit conditions.
- Circular Aperture
The 9-blade circular aperture allows the photographer to enjoy a circular bokeh effect near the maximum aperture.
- SIGMA DC DN SERIES
Sigma has always focused on offering a lineup of bright single focal length lenses from wide-angle to telephoto. In terms of interchangeable lenses for mirrorless cameras, our concept has been to adopt a lightweight and compact package that is easy to use in everyday life, with focal lengths that form the basic composition of photography.
The 30mm F1.4 DC DN Contemporary, released in 2016, is the first in a new series of single focal length lenses for mirrorless cameras that offer high optical performance while achieving F1.4 brightness. In order to produce this lens as a large-aperture F1.4 lens in the Contemporary line, we took on the challenge in every respect, including the latest optical design, selection of optimal materials, compatibility with video, and full support for in-camera aberration correction functions.
The first lens is the "standard" 30mm F1.4 DC DN Contemporary, followed by the "wide-angle" 16mm F1.4 DC DN Contemporary, and the "mid-telephoto" 56mm F1.4 DC DN Contemporary, creating a new "lens system" for mirrorless cameras. The lineup is sufficient for a new "lens system" for mirrorless cameras.
