Product Features

Unparalleled resolution and nudity. The best visual experience. The long-awaited "razor macro" is finally available from the Art line.

- The long-awaited first macro lens from the Art line

The Art line's concept of "image quality first" is the top priority for this product, and it adopts an advance focusing system. It was designed with the achievement of high image quality as the first priority. The lens achieves an overwhelmingly high level of resolution and sharpness for a macro lens in the standard to mid-telephoto range. In addition, the adoption of a coreless DC motor and optimization of the algorithm enable smooth AF operation of heavy, high-performance lenses. This legendary macro lens, which has been highly acclaimed by many photography enthusiasts under the nickname "razor macro," has now been further evolved and is now available in full Art line quality.

- Design concept that prioritizes image quality

The lens adopts a floating focus system that moves the two focus lens groups by different amounts. In addition to two FLD and two SLD glass elements, a glass element with a high refractive index and high anomalous partial dispersion is used to thoroughly correct chromatic aberration on axis. In addition, two aspherical lens elements are used to improve resolution near the minimum focusing distance. These features allow the photographer to enjoy the contrast between the razor-sharp in-focus area and the blur-free bokeh.

- Optimal focus speed and focusing operation realized by the bi-wire system

The by-wire system eliminates the mechanical connection between the focus ring and the focus drive unit. A newly developed coreless DC motor is mounted and controlled by the latest algorithms to reduce drive noise and achieve optimum focusing speed. The large focus rotation angle also allows for delicate focusing control, which is essential for macro photography.

- Fully compatible with full-size Sony E-mount

Despite its optical design for digital SLR cameras, the lens is compatible with the Sony E-mount, a mount for mirrorless cameras. As with the MC-11, the lens is fully compatible with the in-body image stabilization function and the in-body aberration correction functions "Lens Compensation" ("Vignetting Compensation", "Lateral Chromatic Aberration Compensation" and "Distortion Compensation"). Continuous AF, which is not supported by the MC-11, can also be used.

- Macro Flash Support

By attaching the optional Macro Flash Adapter ø65mm, the EM-140 DG macro flash can be used. The ø72mm thread is provided on the inner diameter side of the ø65mm Macro Flash Adapter, so a macro flash or ring light other than the EM-140 DG can also be attached by using the ø72mm adapter.
