Product Features

The world's first* new-generation standard zoom lens with a maximum aperture of F1.7 across the entire zoom range.

- World's first* LEICA DG VARIO-SUMMILUX lens with F1.7 brightness across the entire zoom range from ultra-wide angle to standard zoom
The LEICA DG VARIO-SUMMILUX lens meets Leica's strict optical standards and is the world's first* large-aperture F1.7 "SUMMILUX" brightness and outstanding image rendering performance across the entire zoom range, enabling the shallow depth of field of F1.7 to produce a large bokeh effect and minimize camera shake in low light conditions.
(*As an interchangeable lens digital camera.)

The 12-group, 17-element optical system features three aspherical lens elements to suppress spherical aberration and four ED lens elements optimally positioned to correct chromatic aberration, resulting in excellent descriptive performance right up to the periphery of the image.
With a maximum aperture of F1.7, this single lens can be used alone in low-light conditions without the need to replace a large aperture single-focal length lens, enabling impressive expressions with beautiful bokeh in both still and moving images, expanding the range of photography.

- A large-aperture standard zoom lens that covers a focal length equivalent to five single-focal length lenses* from 20mm ultra-wide angle to 50mm standard (*35mm format equivalent)
The lens covers a focal length equivalent to five single focal length lenses* in a single lens, making it possible to shoot a wide range of scenes, from vast celestial and landscape shots at 20mm ultra-wide angle, to snapshots at 24mm wide angle, 28mm wide angle, and 35mm semi-standard, to portrait shots at 50mm standard (*all 35mm film format equivalent). The wide-angle lens is particularly useful for ultra-wide shots at the wide end of 20mm. In particular, the ultra-wide-angle coverage of 20mm at the wide end enables a wide range of moving image expression.
(*There are five typical focal lengths: ultra wide-angle 20mm, wide-angle 24mm, wide-angle 28mm, semi-standard 35mm, and standard 50mm.)

In movie shooting, the brightness of the F1.7 maximum aperture enables flexible shooting in a variety of situations, as a single lens can handle scenes that shift from bright to low-light conditions without the need for replacement. This allows for flexible shooting in a variety of situations, and together with the ability to significantly reduce the size of photographic equipment, it provides a high degree of mobility.

- Superior operability and high mobility for both still and moving image shooting
The aperture ring on the lens barrel allows the photographer to intuitively change the aperture value, and the click-less design enables impressive expressions with smooth aperture changes during movie shooting.
The camera is also equipped with a focus clutch mechanism that allows the user to quickly switch between AF and MF modes simply by sliding the focus ring. In addition, the manual focus operation can be switched between depending on the ring rotation speed (infinite rotation) when shooting still images and depending on the absolute position of the ring rotation angle when shooting movies, thus achieving excellent manual focus operation.
The distance scale that appears on the lens barrel during manual focus position enables precise focusing and direct reflection of the photographer's intention in the focus feed during movie recording.

During movie recording, micro-step control of the aperture supports stable exposure change control even when zooming or panning during movie recording. In addition, the latest optical design thoroughly suppresses breathing, which is a change in the angle of view during focusing. In addition, the camera supports high-speed, high-precision contrast AF driven at 240 fps, and its improved AF tracking performance allows the camera to firmly track the focus of even fast-moving subjects. Smooth control of f-stop changes even in scenes with large brightness changes and stable exposure control even when zooming support comfortable movie shooting. The inner-focusing system enables high-speed, high-precision autofocusing while maintaining quiet operation.
And because it is lightweight, compact, dustproof and drip-proof (when mounted on a Panasonic dust-proof and drip-proof camera body), and resistant to low temperatures (-10°C), it can be taken out for serious shooting in the field.
