Product Features
A new super-telephoto zoom lens with significant evolution was born.
AF speed has been improved and image stabilization has been improved by 4.5 stops.
The SP 150-600mm F/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2 (Model A022) is a super-telephoto zoom lens for 35mm-format full-frame digital SLR cameras, which greatly improves the performance of the SP 150-600mm F/5-6.3 Di VC USD (Model A011).
This product has evolved significantly by improving optical performance, close-up shooting ability, AF speed and accuracy, and image stabilization, as well as adding new features such as a flex-zoom lock mechanism and anti-smudge coating for greater convenience during shooting. In addition, the use of the teleconverter (Model TC-X14/TC-X20) (sold separately) expands the shooting range and allows users to enjoy the world of ultra-telephotography even further. The exterior of the lens has been redesigned with a premium look and feel common to the new SP series lineup. The next-generation SP 150-600mm G2 (Generation 2) was born.
- Improved optical design for even higher performance
The Model A022 features an improved optical design and overall manufacturing technology over the Model A011, which has been well-received for its solid descriptive performance. The new lens features improved resolution and contrast performance, and delivers sharp and clear images throughout the entire zoom range. The lens construction consists of 21 elements in 13 groups and, like the Model A011, uses three LD (extra-low dispersion) lenses to thoroughly eliminate axial chromatic aberration and lateral chromatic aberration.
- Improved AF speed and high response
The ring-type ultrasonic motor "USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive)" is equipped for fast and highly accurate focusing with excellent responsiveness and controllability. By improving the control circuit and AF algorithm of the conventional Model A011, the Model A022 has improved AF functions such as AF speed, response in low contrast, and tracking of fast moving subjects. In addition, the full-time manual mechanism allows fine-tuning of focus in MF without switching focus switches, even during AF shooting.
- 4.5-step image stabilization with a switch that allows selection from three modes.
The VC (Vibration Compensation) mechanism has been completely redesigned in the Model A022. An improved actuator and a new control algorithm have improved the responsiveness of the image stabilization lens, resulting in an even higher correction effect. As a result, the camera now achieves an image stabilization performance of 4.5 stops in accordance with CIPA standards (when VC MODE 3 is used). In addition, the camera is newly equipped with a switch to switch between three correction modes, including a dedicated sink mode. The user can select the best image stabilization mode according to his or her preference.
MODE 1: Basic mode that balances the stabilization of the viewfinder image and the correction effect.
MODE2: Dedicated mode for streaming shots.
MODE 3: Mode that prioritizes the correction effect and corrects only at the moment the shutter is released.
Custom settings for MODE 1 can be made using the TAMRON TAP-in Console (sold separately). You can select either the default setting "Standard" or "Viewfinder Priority" which gives higher priority to the stability of the viewfinder image.
- Newly developed flex-zoom lock mechanism for greater convenience when shooting
A newly developed flex-zoom lock mechanism allows the zoom ring to be instantly locked and unlocked at any zoom position by sliding the zoom ring back and forth. This mechanism prevents unintentional movement of the lens barrel due to its own weight during shooting, thereby enhancing photographic convenience. The conventional zoom lock switch is also installed to prevent the lens barrel from dropping under its own weight when being carried.
- Anti-fouling coating and simple drip-proof construction for improved lens convenience
The frontmost lens is coated with a fluorine compound that is highly water- and oil-repellent and stain-resistant. Dust, water droplets, hand grease, and other contaminants adhering to the lens surface can be easily wiped off, making maintenance easy. In consideration of outdoor shooting, the lens barrel is equipped with a simple drip-proof structure that prevents water from entering the lens by installing drip-proof seals at various movable parts and joints.
- Shortened minimum focusing distance, ideal for tele-macro photography
By improving the focus cam and zoom cam inside the lens barrel, the minimum focusing distance has been shortened from 2.7m with the "Model A011" to 2.2m with the "Model A022". The maximum magnification has also been improved from 1:5 to 1:3.9, allowing users to enjoy telemacro-like photography.
- Electromagnetic diaphragm system for Nikon
The electromagnetic diaphragm system, in which the aperture blades are driven and controlled by a motor built into the lens body, has been adopted for Nikon* lenses. This enables more precise aperture drive.
