Product Features
A large-aperture F2.8 high-performance ultra-wide-angle zoom lens with high optical performance, dustproof and drip-proof performance, and robustness, providing consistently high image quality under any conditions.
- Compact and lightweight, yet dustproof and drip-proof, the mobility of a large-aperture F2.8 ultra-wide-angle zoom lens with a wide focal range
While maintaining the high performance of the ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 7-14mm F4 ultra wide-angle zoom lens for the Four Thirds system, the ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 7-14mm F4 has achieved F2.8 brightness in a compact and lightweight design. The bright F2.8 maximum aperture value enables the use of a shutter speed one stop faster than before, and in combination with the powerful image stabilization mechanism of the OM-D series cameras, expands the range of handheld shooting scenes.
The short flange-back design of mirrorless cameras has enabled an overwhelmingly compact and lightweight design despite the large aperture. Compared to a lens with the same angle of view and the same maximum aperture value as a full-frame camera, the lens weighs only about 60% of a full-frame camera, and boasts outstanding mobility.
The lens is dustproof and drip-proof, with 11 sealing points to prevent dust and water from entering the lens, making it ideal for use with the OM-D E-M1/E-M5 Mark II and other dust-proof bodies for use in harsh shooting environments.
The combination of this lens, the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 12-40mm F2.8 PRO and the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 40-150mm F2.8 PRO in the M.ZUIKO PRO category, and three large-aperture F2.8 zoom lenses, allows you to shoot with a full-size SLR camera and a full-size digital SLR camera at the same angle of view and aperture value. The total weight of the camera, including the three lenses with the same angle of view and maximum aperture, is about half that of a full-size SLR camera, providing overwhelming mobility in shooting environments where it is not possible to carry large equipment.
- Unparalleled optical performance that delivers sharp images from the center to the periphery from the maximum aperture setting
The lens has optical performance that enables outstanding high image quality when shooting scenes that require sharp resolution all the way to the periphery, such as night and starry night scenes, while using the maximum aperture value.
In order to keep the lens compact and lightweight while enhancing optical performance at the large F2.8 maximum aperture, special lenses such as DSA lenses (double-sided aspheric lens with large polarization), Super ED lenses, ED lenses, EDA lenses (special low-dispersion aspheric lens), and HR lenses are lavishly used. This ensures a flat image surface and the ability to render point images with minimal chromatic aberration. It also has optical performance with no light falloff from the center to the periphery.
The effective use of the ZERO (Zuiko Extra-low Reflection Optical) coating, which reduces ghosting and flare to the utmost limit, makes the lens resistant to backlighting. In particular, the coating has been optimized for the large aperture lens on the front element to significantly minimize (circular) ghosting.
The outstanding optical performance of this lens is further highlighted by the 40M high-resolution shot of the OM-D E-M5 Mark II.
- Camera pro-series common proximity ability to get as close as 7.5cm from the tip of the lens
The minimum focusing distance is 20 cm (approx. 7.5 cm from the lens tip), and the maximum magnification is 0.12x (0.24x in 35 mm format). This lens allows you to take a close-up photo while bringing the background into sharp focus, an effect only possible with ultra-wide-angle lenses.
- Other Features
The lens is equipped with a manual focus (MF) clutch mechanism that allows the photographer to switch instantly from AF shooting to MF shooting and leave the lens in place.
The lens is equipped with the "L-Fn" function button. The L-Fn button can be used to assign functions to the lens according to the camera body's custom settings, such as "AF stop.
The lens is equipped with a fixed lens hood. The position of the front lens hood moves to the rear at the telephoto end and to the front at the wide end, effectively cutting unwanted light from entering the lens. Daring to use plastic as the material ensures impact resistance and prevents vignetting due to deformation of the hood.
