- Optical viewfinder field of view approx. 100
Digital SLR camera equipped with a high-performance pentaprism. The viewfinder provides a large, easy-to-view field of view with a field of view of approximately 100%, a magnification of approximately 0.95x, and a viewing angle of approximately 28.2°.
[Intelligent]
The optical viewfinder uses a transmissive LCD. It can display not only shooting information such as shutter speed, aperture, ISO sensitivity, etc., but also the grid and electronic level. This allows you to concentrate on shooting while checking various settings and operating the camera without taking your eyes off the viewfinder.

- Continuous shooting at a maximum of approximately 10 frames per second
When shooting through the optical viewfinder, the camera achieves high-speed continuous shooting at a maximum of approximately 10 frames per second. This high-speed continuous shooting performance is also demonstrated during servo AF. In addition, the camera can take approximately 58 consecutive pictures (JPEG Large/Fine) during continuous shooting. A mechanical shutter is used to achieve a maximum shutter speed of 1/8000 sec.

- All-cross 45-point AF sensor
The camera is equipped with an all-cross 45-point AF sensor that can cover a wide range of subjects. The distance-measuring points are arranged widely and densely in the viewfinder. This allows photographers to compose their shots exactly as they wish. All distance measurement points are cross-measurable (vertically and horizontally) for f/5.6 luminous flux, so you won't miss a subject even if it is at the edge of the picture plane. In addition, up to 27 AF points can measure f/8 luminous flux, so even lenses with a maximum aperture of f/8 when an extender is attached can be used for AF. AF performance in dark scenes is also high, with EV-3 achieved for low-light limit performance when shooting through the viewfinder.

[Distance measurement area mode]
Five different distance measurement area selection modes are available to suit the subject and shooting scene when shooting through the viewfinder. ［The camera is also compatible with the Spot 1-point AF mode, which allows the distance to be measured in an even smaller frame than the 1-point AF mode.
[Slew Shot Mode]
The first EOS camera with an assist function for shooting through the optical viewfinder. ［By simply selecting the Sink Effect from three levels (Large, Medium, or Small), the camera automatically sets the shutter speed according to the setting. When a compatible lens is attached, the camera calculates and automatically compensates for the discrepancy between the subject's speed (the amount of movement between frames) and the panning speed.

- EOS iTR AF that identifies and tracks "faces
The new AE (metering) sensor and DIGIC8 enable face detection even when shooting through the optical viewfinder. This enables the EOS 90D's AI Servo AFII to achieve the EOS iTR AF (Face Priority AF) feature found in higher-end models. Even with fast-moving and unpredictable subjects, once captured, the camera persistently continues to track the subject. If the subject is a person, the camera gives priority to the person's face information.

- New AE sensor with approx. 220,000 pixels
A new 220,000-pixel RGB + IR (infrared) distance measurement sensor is used. The sensor is also linked to the EOS iTR AF, which links the AF frame to the subject's movement. The higher pixel count makes face detection possible and improves the performance of human detection. When a face is detected, the camera automatically sets the appropriate exposure. When metering, the sensor functions as a 216-segment (18 x 12) metering sensor for highly accurate exposure control. There are four metering modes to choose from: Evaluative, Partial, Spot, and Center-weighted Average Metering.

- Approx. 32.5-megapixel APS-C size CMOS sensor
The camera is equipped with an approx. 32.5-megapixel APS-C size CMOS sensor with Dual Pixel CMOS AF, successfully developed and produced in-house for an APS-C size sensor with over 30 megapixels, achieving higher pixel counts and faster readout performance.

- DIGIC8 imaging engine
Processing power to convert large data into high-quality images at high speed, high-speed continuous shooting at up to 11 frames/second (Live View shooting, fixed AF), noise reduction processing to achieve a normal ISO sensitivity of 25600, digital lens optimizer during shooting, and 4K movie recording with dual pixel CMOS AF. Dual-pixel CMOS AF capable 4K movie recording.

- Pupil AF
Pupil AF detects the pupil of the subject and focuses the camera's AF. It can be used during both live-view shooting and movie recording, and tracks the pupils of a moving subject (person). ［The camera quickly focuses on a subject that is difficult to focus on with the [Single-Point AF] function, and automatically continues to focus on the subject. To focus on the other pupil, touch the pupil in the face selection frame to select it, or use the multi-controller to move the AF frame as desired. This makes it easier to focus on the pupil even when the depth of field is shallow.

- EOS MOVIE 4K 30p Movie Recording
4K (UHD) (3840 x 2160) movie recording with approximately 4 times the resolution of Full HD is possible. The camera supports full-scale video production with a variety of functions, including autofocus during shooting and video electronic IS. 4K video can be cropped [on/off]. When "Crop" is not selected, the focal length of the lens can be used as it is, enabling expression that makes the most of the characteristics of wide-angle lenses.
