Product Features

Advanced specifications and the latest advanced functions to stimulate creativity.

The D780 is a versatile, high-performance Nikon FX format digital SLR camera.

- Enhanced 51-point AF system (viewfinder shooting)

The advanced scene recognition system, evolved by the EXPEED 6 image processing engine and 180K pixel RGB sensor, improves subject tracking performance in 3D-tracking. In addition, the optimized AF algorithm of the flagship D5 has been adopted to enhance the subject detection performance of Auto Area AF.

- Automatic AF fine-tuning with enhanced accuracy by registering both ends of the zoom lens

The D780 can automatically register the AF fine-tuning values acquired for each lens model for precise focusing*. By using the AF fine-tuning values at both ends of the zoom lens, AF accuracy is improved throughout the entire zoom range.

- Shutter speeds from 1/8000 sec. to 900 sec. for bright and dark scenes

A wide range of exposure times can be set for shutter speeds from 1/8000 sec. to a maximum of 900 sec. Even outdoors during the day when the sun is bright, setting the shutter speed to 1/8000 sec. allows photographers to take impressive portraits by taking advantage of the wide aperture of the large-aperture lens.

- Nikon SLR cameras' first 273-point Hybrid AF with image phase detection AF (Live View shooting)

For the first time in Nikon digital SLR cameras, image phase detection AF has been adopted to dramatically improve AF performance during live-view shooting. The Hybrid AF system covers approximately 90% of the image capture area horizontally and vertically with a high density of 273 focus points, allowing you to enjoy innovative live-view shooting.

- Tiltable 3.2-inch, high-resolution 2.36 million-dot image monitor with touch panel

A touch panel is used for the image monitor. The combination of the touch AF and the high-speed, high-precision 273-point AF system has revolutionized live-view shooting, making it much more intuitive and smooth than the D750. In addition, the camera can be tiltable to any angle within a wide vertical range.

- High resolution with noise suppression achieved at normal sensitivity ISO 51200 and high sensitivity

The Nikon FX-format back-illuminated CMOS sensor is used as the image sensor to achieve the optimum balance between high image quality and high sensitivity performance. The latest EXPEED 6 image processing engine delivers excellent high-sensitivity performance from ISO 100 to 51200.

- Low power consumption design capable of shooting up to approximately 2260 frames

Thanks to its low power consumption design, the camera can shoot up to approximately 2,260 frames on a single charge when using the Li-ion rechargeable battery EN-EL15b. This allows you to shoot more than 1,000 frames, such as interval timer shooting and time-lapse movie shooting, without worrying about the remaining battery power.

- New function, "simultaneous deletion" of the same image, SD card double slot

The camera is equipped with a double slot that allows the use of two UHS-II compliant SD cards. By loading a memory card in both slots, you can use [Sequential Recording], [Backup Recording], or [Split Recording of RAW + JPEG], depending on your purpose, to efficiently record the images you have taken. In addition, the same image saved on two cards in backup recording and split recording can be deleted simultaneously with a single operation, contributing to further acceleration of the workflow.
