Basic Information

Product Name Nikon Z fc Mirrorless SLR Camera [body only]
Model No. ZFC

Product Features

The Z series is the first APS-C size mirrorless camera to feature a design inspired by Nikon's historic cameras, focusing not only on the pleasure of taking still and moving images, but also on the pleasure of holding the camera

- Fusion of mirrorless and traditional Nikon design

Inspired by the Nikon FM2, the Z fc's finely crafted exterior design is reminiscent of a film camera, with a pentaprism design that closely resembles that of the FM2, body size, black and silver color balance, and a leather-grained surface finish on the back of the monitor. The flat, grip-less form of the camera allows it to be smoothly removed from the bag when you want to take a picture.

- The Story Behind the Product Name "Z fc

The name "Z fc" was given to this camera as a link between the past, present, and future of Nikon, a company that has been sincerely involved with cameras for more than 70 years. The "f" is an "f" for "fusion," indicating the "fusion" of the feel of precision instruments and high image quality, which has been perfected over decades of camera design and manufacturing. The "f" also symbolizes the cameras that have built Nikon's history. The "c" represents Nikon's wish that everyone will be able to use this traditional camera in a more "casual" way.

- Responsive dial controls are also fun to use.

Three dials for shutter speed, ISO sensitivity, and exposure compensation, as well as a small window displaying the F value, are mounted on the top surface of the body. The basic camera settings are visible at a glance. The responsive operation of the dials makes it fun to enjoy the shooting style of carefully adjusting each setting and releasing the shutter.

- The first vari-angle image monitor in the Z series

The Z fc is equipped with the first vari-angle image monitor in the Z series. Unlike the tilt-type monitor, the monitor can be opened horizontally, allowing for a wider range of uses, such as shooting with the camera attached to a selfie stick or vlogging. When the monitor is turned to the front, the camera automatically switches to the selfie mode, enabling high-quality selfies for both still and moving images. The AF-F mode, which is dedicated to movie shooting, can also be used in the selfie mode. The image monitor is a 3.0-inch, approximately 1.04 million-dot, touch panel that provides comfortable operability with light touch operation.

- High-performance AF with pupil AF/animal AF effective for movies

Hybrid AF automatically switches between image phase detection AF and contrast AF to capture subjects that appear at a moment's notice. The camera also features Pupil AF and Animal AF, which are effective for both still images and movies. Even when friends, family members, or pets* are moving, the camera can focus firmly on their eyes.

*Compatible with dogs and cats only.

- High sensitivity and high image quality ISO 100-51200

The maximum normal ISO sensitivity is 51200*. The high-performance image sensor and noise reduction of the EXPEED 6 image processing engine, which is also used in higher-end models, enable the camera to capture details and textures clearly in both still and moving images. Even in dark scenes, a higher shutter speed can be used by setting the camera to a higher sensitivity, allowing you to take pictures with less blurring.

Sensitization can be increased up to *204800 equivalent. The maximum normal ISO sensitivity during movie recording is 25600.

- 4K UHD video without crop

4K UHD/30p video can be shot on a DX format basis without cropping. Self-portrait mode is activated when the vari-angle image monitor is pointed forward, and high quality vlog videos can be easily shot using pupil AF and full-time AF (AF-F), which keeps track of the subject.
