The highest level of image quality among Canon interchangeable lenses with a focal length of 85mm
- The large mount diameter of 54mm, the same as that of the EF mount, and the short back focus of the RF mount, which is unique to mirrorless cameras, allow for a high degree of freedom in lens design, resulting in the highest level of image quality among Canon's 85mm focal length interchangeable lenses.

- Optical design with 13 elements in 9 groups, including 1 BR lens (composed of BR optical elements sandwiched between concave and convex glass lenses), 1 UD lens, and 1 ground aspherical lens with special optical materials. Canon's proprietary "BR Lens" and other optical systems significantly suppress chromatic aberration.
- The BR lens is a Canon original composite lens that consists of a concave-convex glass lens sandwiching a BR (Blue Spectrum Refractive) optical element, an organic optical material developed based on a review of the molecular structure design of the lens material. The BR optical element has a special dispersion characteristic that significantly refracts blue light (in the short wavelength range), making it possible to focus the entire wavelength range of visible light, which was previously difficult to focus to a single point, to a single point without limit, achieving an extremely high level of chromatic aberration correction.

With a maximum aperture of F1.2 and a large aperture lens, ideal portrait photography is possible. This focal length and F value are unique in their ability to create beautifully large bokeh while maintaining a solid focus.
The brightness of F1.2 also has the advantage of allowing the shutter speed to be reduced in dark scenes to minimize subject blur and camera shake, and also allows shooting at lower ISO sensitivity.
