Realizes high image quality by employing a number of materials such as special optics
- Ultra wide-angle zoom lens with a maximum aperture of F2.8 throughout the entire zoom range. It is possible to shoot at relatively high shutter speeds without increasing sensitivity, even when shooting landscapes in dimly lit environments or starry skies.
- By optimally arranging two large-aperture glass-molded double-sided aspherical lenses and one ground aspherical lens, distortion, curvature of the image plane, and astigmatism have been improved, resulting in image quality far superior to that of previous models.
- Two UD lenses, made of an optical material with low refractive index and low dispersion characteristics and featuring anomalous dispersion characteristics similar to those of fluorite, are employed to significantly reduce the occurrence of lateral chromatic aberration, which tends to occur with wide-angle lenses.
Two types of special coatings are used to achieve even higher image quality
- The special coating "ASC" provides significant anti-reflective effect for light incident at an angle close to perpendicular to the lens surface.
- The combination of the highly effective anti-reflection special coating "SWC" and "ASC" reduces phenomena such as flare and ghosting, which are caused by light reflections in the lens that enter the captured image, to achieve even higher image quality.
Improved durability by reviewing the mechanical structure and dustproof and drip-proof materials
- The mechanical structure has been reviewed to achieve superior durability in terms of vibration and shock resistance.
- The mount, switch panels, zoom ring, and focus ring are dustproof and drip-proof to prevent water droplets and dust from entering the lens.
- The front and back surfaces of the lens are coated with a fluorine coating to prevent oil and water droplets from adhering to the lens. Oil and other contaminants adhering to the lens can be easily removed with a dry cloth without the use of solvents.
