Product Features

An ultra-wide-angle zoom lens with a maximum aperture of F4 that delivers high image quality across the entire image range, including the periphery, this "L (Luxury) lens" for professional photographers pursues the highest level of performance in terms of descriptive performance, operability, and high robustness.

By optimally arranging three aspherical lens elements, including a large-diameter glass-molded double-sided aspherical lens (first lens), distortion, image curvature, and astigmatism are suppressed, resulting in a significant improvement in image quality, especially on the periphery of the image, compared with the current EF17-40mm F4L USM ultra-wide angle zoom lens.

This allows the lens to sharply capture details such as trees and buildings on the periphery of the image in landscape photography.

In addition, the IS (Image Stabilization System) provides image stabilization of 4 stops in shutter speed conversion (*focal length 35mm, when using EOS-1D X, based on CIPA standards), allowing users to shoot in dark environments while hand-held, and to take advantage of the slow shutter speed for more agile shooting.

- Two glass-molded double-sided aspherical lenses with a large aspherical surface are placed in the first group, and the glass-molded double-sided aspherical lens of the second lens in particular provides excellent correction of image curvature to realize high image quality on the periphery, which has been difficult to achieve with wide-angle zoom lenses.

- The large-diameter glass-molded double-sided aspheric lens of the first lens provides excellent correction of distortion at the wide-angle end.

- The latest optical design with two UD lenses optimally positioned suppresses lateral chromatic aberration.

- The first wide-angle zoom lens in the L-Lens series of high-performance lenses to feature an image stabilizer (IS).

- The IS provides an image stabilization effect equivalent to 4 stops in shutter speed. The IS system is effective in situations where a tripod or flash cannot be used, where you do not want to raise the ISO sensitivity as much as possible, or where you want to take advantage of slow shutter speeds to express your subject.

- The lens barrel structure has been redesigned to achieve high durability against repeated zooming operations and high vibration shock resistance of the lens barrel.

- The mount, switch panel, zoom ring, and focus ring are dustproof and drip-proof.

- The front and rear lens surfaces are coated with a fluorine coating that provides oil and water repellency to prevent oil and water droplets from adhering to the lens surface.
