Product Features
All-in-One Zoom for a Wide Range of Scenes
- The camera combines an approximately 8.3x optical zoom that covers the wide-angle to telephoto range of 29-240mm equivalent in 35mm format with a compact and lightweight design of approximately 84.5mm in overall length and 310g in weight. The lens can be used in a wide variety of situations, from everyday photography to travel, sports, and trains.
- The lens optical design with 17 elements in 13 groups, including one UD lens and two aspherical lenses, reduces various aberrations that cause image quality degradation and achieves high image quality.
- In addition to the EOS R series APS-C size cameras, the lens can be attached to the EOS R series full-size cameras, enabling effective use of the lens when using each camera together.
Optical Image Stabilization for Comfortable Shooting
- The lens's in-lens optical image stabilization mechanism delivers a 4.5-step*1 image stabilization effect.
- When the EOS R7 is attached, the image stabilization system achieves an image stabilization effect of 7.0 stops*2 by cooperative control with the in-body image stabilization system.
- Dynamic IS effectively compensates for camera shake during movie recording. The Dynamic IS system provides particularly effective image stabilization at wide angles, enabling comfortable shooting of movies while walking. The image stabilization effect is effective regardless of whether the camera is equipped with an in-body image stabilization mechanism or not, and regardless of the type of image stabilization mechanism*3.
* 1 Focal length 150mm (equivalent to 240mm in 35mm film format), when using EOS R10, based on CIPA standard (Yaw/Pitch direction).
* 2 Focal length 150mm (equivalent to 240mm in 35mm film format), when using EOS R7, based on CIPA standard (Yaw/Pitch direction).
* 3 In-body Image Stabilizer / Movie Electronic IS; shooting range becomes narrower when Movie Electronic IS is used.
Expanding the Range of Expression in Close-up Photography and Movie Shooting
- When shooting with AF, the minimum shooting distance is 0.17 m and the maximum magnification is 0.44x. When shooting with MF, the minimum shooting distance is 0.12m and the maximum magnification is 0.59x*. The "Center Focus Macro" function, which uses close-up photography, allows for a greater blurring of the periphery of the image than is possible with normal macro photography.
- Compared to the "EF-S18-150mm F3.5-6.3 IS STM" (released in November 2016), the minimum focusing distance and maximum magnification have been improved while maintaining the same compact and lightweight design.
- The lead screw type stepping motor (STM) enables smooth AF even during video recording.
- The 7-blade circular diaphragm enables beautifully blurred, circular background images.
- The lens shooting distance display, a feature of RF lenses, is supported.
* Minimum focusing distance of 0.12m is for a focal length of 18-24mm. Maximum magnification of 0.59x is at 35mm focal length.
