Product Features
- High resolution and beautiful blurring in a compact and lightweight design. Large-aperture ultra-wide-angle single focal length lens ideal for still and video photography
This large-aperture wide-angle single focal length lens features the widest angle of 20mm (*1) among Sony's E-mount single focal length lenses, thanks to the latest optical design that takes into account the evolution of the camera body and a mirrorless-specific design. With its ultra-wide angle of view of 20mm, brightness of a maximum aperture of 1.8, and high point-image reproducibility, this lens is effective for shooting landscapes, night scenes, and starry landscapes. The compact and lightweight design makes it easy to mount on a gimbal or grip, and its high close-up shooting ability and quiet AF drive make it a recommended lens for movie shooting as well.
(*1: As a 35mm full-frame lens; Sony research, February 2020)
- High resolution from a maximum aperture of 1.8 at the ultra-wide-angle 20mm lens across the entire image range
The latest optical design with two advanced aspherical AA (advanced aspherical) lenses and three ED (extra-low dispersion) glass elements optimally arranged delivers high contrast and sharp images with suppressed sagittal flare (*) (blurring of images of point light sources). It is particularly effective for night and starry sky photography.
(*Sagittal flare is a phenomenon in which the image of a point light source is not focused as a point and appears as if a bird is flapping its wings. Generally, it is more noticeable at the periphery of the image with large aperture lenses.)
- High-resolution performance with two advanced aspherical AA lenses
Two highly aspherical AA (advanced aspherical) lenses are used. This lens has excellent correction of image curvature and astigmatism, which are often noticeable with wide-angle lenses, and achieves high resolution performance from the shallow depth of field when the lens is wide open to the entire image area.
- Three ED glass elements for color-blur-free imaging
The use of three ED (extra-low dispersion) glass elements effectively suppresses chromatic aberration to the periphery of the image and reduces color blurring.
- Beautifully natural blur and high close-up shooting ability
The large blur effect of a maximum aperture of 1.8 and the use of a circular aperture (9 blades) control spherical aberration, which affects the blur effect, to achieve the beautiful, natural blur effect that only a G lens can achieve. The lens also features a minimum focusing distance of 0.18m (MF) / 0.19m (AF).
- High backlight resistance performance with nano AR coating
When shooting landscapes with a wide-angle lens, you are often exposed to sunlight, which can cause flare and ghosting due to internal reflections. It delivers high-contrast imaging performance.
- Ultra wide-angle large-aperture lens with an overwhelmingly compact and lightweight design
The latest optical design and optimum mechanical design have realized an overwhelmingly compact and lightweight design weighing approximately 373g despite the full-size, ultra-wide-angle, large-aperture lens. It is also highly portable when used with a compact E-mount body, making it ideal for a variety of situations where mobility is required, such as video shooting while mounted on a gimbal or grip.
- Easy-to-use size and angle of view when mounted on an APS-C body (35mm film format equivalent 30mm)
With its well-balanced size and easy-to-use angle of view of 30mm (35mm film format equivalent) even when mounted on an APS-C camera body, it is useful in a wide range of situations, from street snapshots to active photography such as mountain climbing.
- Equipped with "XD Linear Motor" for future camera body speed performance
Two XD (extreme dynamic) linear motors are mounted to achieve high-speed, high-precision, high-following, and quiet AF. This minimizes the drive delay and micro-vibrations that are likely to occur when driving a large-diameter focus lens group, achieving quiet and low-vibration AF drive. The camera continues to capture even momentary changes in movement, such as when taking snapshots of moving subjects.
- Extensive movie shooting performance that combines Sony's movie technology
The XD linear motor delivers fast, precise, highly accurate, and quiet AF even during movie recording. The internal focusing mechanism, which does not change its overall length when focusing, enables comfortable movie recording even when the camera is mounted on a small gimbal or grip.
