Product Features
The Tokina TM500, which reduced the size of the 500mm to a palm-sized lens, has been redesigned for the modern age. The SZ 500mm F8 Reflex MF is now available. The T-mount interchangeability allows the lens to be used with six mount variations, including four mirrorless mounts. The unique ring bokeh effect unique to mirror lenses is an attractive feature. The minimum focusing distance is as short as 1.7m, and the maximum magnification of 1:2.86x makes macro photography possible. It is a super-telephoto lens that can be easily carried with you from bird and aircraft photography, where ultra-telephoto is required, to photographing natural scenery.
[SZ Series]
This is a new lens series that offers a lineup of lenses with distinctive optical systems unique to Tokina. As the first lens in the SZ series, we have planned the SZ 500mm F8, which inherits the optical system of Tokina's legendary lenses.
- A super-telephoto lens in the palm of your hand
With a diameter of 115mm, a length of 165mm, and a filter diameter of 72mm, the SZ 500mm F8 is an epoch-making compact size for a 500mm super-telephoto lens. Although the lens barrel is made of metal, the lightweight 540g (including T-mount, for SLR cameras) is achieved through the use of a light aluminum alloy and a cam-type focusing system. It can be carried anywhere and used as a super-telephoto lens that can be stored in a small camera bag for travel.
- Legendary 500mm super-telephoto "TM-500" adapted for the digital age
In the 1980s, camera and lens manufacturers were offering catadioptric reflex lenses (reflex telephoto lenses), but the Tokina TM-500 was by far the most compact. The SZ500mm F8 Reflex MF is a modern version of the TM-500, lighter, and available in a variety of camera mounts.
- T-mount" system that allows users to change mounts
The T-Mount interchangeable mount system, which was previously used for the Tokina T-800 and T-600 super-telephoto lenses, has been reintroduced. (T-mount P=0.75mm, diameter 42mm) The mount can be changed by replacing the T-mount even after purchase, allowing a single lens to be used with cameras with a variety of mounts.
- Maximum 1:2.86x macro photography is possible.
The use of reflective optics makes this lens far superior to ordinary telephoto lenses for close-up photography, enabling macro photography with a minimum focusing distance of 1.7m and a maximum magnification of 1:2.86x. It is also very convenient for close-up photography of insects and flowers from a distance. (Use of a tripod is recommended for composition and focus adjustment.)
- Ring bokeh only possible with reflective optics
The use of reflective optics, with a secondary mirror in the front of the lens, produces a unique ring bokeh effect. By using out-of-focus, sparkles on metal or water surfaces can be expressed with a unique ring bokeh effect.
*The mount is a T-mount type and is detachable. It can be converted to other mounts.
*Focusing is manual. Exposure is available only in Aperture Priority AE (A), Av (Av), or Manual (M).
*The "Allow release without lens" setting is required depending on the camera.
