Product Features

1. High-speed AF and image stabilization mechanism that maximize outstanding optical performance

Developed with professional use in mind, this product offers high optical performance, high-speed AF with dual HLA (High-response Linear Actuator), and an image stabilization mechanism with up to 7.5 stops.

High descriptive performance at all zoom and focus ranges

The latest optical design, which employs luxurious glass materials including 6 FLD and 2 SLD elements of special low-dispersion glass, delivers high resolving power throughout the entire zoom range. Three aspherical lenses are used, which are now indispensable for superior optical performance and streamlined lens construction, and the technology of SIGMA's only production facility, the Aizu Plant, is utilized to further improve optical performance with its exceptionally high precision aspherical lenses. Floating focus, which is advantageous for short-range performance, ensures a stable, high-level image quality throughout the entire range from the shortest distance to infinity.

High-speed AF with Dual HLA

The floating focus system reduces the amount of focus lens movement by about half by moving the two focus groups in opposite directions. In addition, a high-response linear motor HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) is used for each of the two focus groups to achieve high-speed AF. In addition to being fast and accurate, the camera also employs a control program that is designed to be quiet, so that movies can be taken comfortably without worrying about noises.

Adoption of OS2 image stabilization mechanism

The latest OS2 image stabilization algorithm provides an extremely high image stabilization effect of 7.5 stops at the wide end and 5.5 stops at the telephoto end*. Two correction modes are provided: image stabilization mode 1, which is suitable for general shooting, and image stabilization mode 2, which is ideal for streaming shots of motor sports, etc.

* According to CIPA (measured with a 35mm full-frame camera at focal lengths of 70mm and 200mm)

Designed to suppress focus breathing

The lens is designed to suppress focus breathing. Focus shift causes little change in the angle of view, enabling natural expression of focus shift in movie shooting.

Design with consideration for flare and ghosting

To prevent flare and ghosting, which reduce image quality, we have taken countermeasures against all conditions of incident light based on the most advanced simulation technology. High backlight resistance enables clear, crisp images in all lighting conditions.

2. Highest build quality in a highly mobile lens body

Sigma is committed to high build quality in all of its lenses. The Sports line of lenses is based on a streamlined optical and mechanical design that not only offers high weather resistance for shooting in harsh environments, but also improves quality and durability by employing cutting-edge materials in all the right places, while at the same time achieving a high level of mobility.

High quality and durability in a compact and lightweight design

The latest optical and mechanical designs streamline the lens configuration and internal structure, resulting in a significantly smaller and lighter body than previous models. The body including the hood adopts a "multi-material structure" that optimally arranges materials such as magnesium, CFRP*1, and TSC*2. 1 Polycarbonate containing carbon fiber used for the interior and exterior of aircraft. 2 Polycarbonate with a thermal shrinkage rate equivalent to that of aluminum. It has high affinity with metal parts and contributes to high-precision product manufacturing.

Adoption of inner zoom mechanism

An inner zoom mechanism is used for the zoom mechanism. Since the overall length does not change with zoom operation, it is easy to handle when shooting hand-held, highly stable when installed on a gimbal, and resistant to dust and water droplets.

Weatherproof performance with Sports line specifications

The mount joints, manual ring, zoom ring, custom switches and other control switches, switch panel, and exterior joints are all dustproof and drip-proof* to prevent dust and debris from entering. The front-most surface of the lens is coated with a water and stain repellent coating to facilitate maintenance when water droplets or dust adhere to the lens. *This structure is designed to be dustproof and drip-proof, and is not waterproof.

3. A wealth of functions to assist professional photographers

In addition to an aperture ring, a first for a Sigma zoom lens, a magnesium tripod mount, and a variety of switches, a wide range of functions that make photography more comfortable and versatile are integrated into the highly mobile lens body.

Equipped with an aperture ring

Newly developed tripod mount

Fully customizable functions

L-mount teleconverter (1.4x/2.0x) compatible

Cover-type lens hood
