Art F1.4, 20mm, the ultimate starscape lens!
- The ultimate starscape lens, now available. The definitive starscape lens from Sigma, the pioneer of the 20mm F1.4.
The F1.4 series is synonymous with the SIGMA Art line, which pursues the highest optical performance and rich expressive power. The SIGMA 20mm F1.4 DG DN Art is a mirrorless-optimized version of a 20mm ultra-wide-angle lens with a maximum aperture of 1.4 (*as of August 2022, according to our own research) that is unique to SIGMA, and has achieved outstanding optical performance and compact size with a primary focus on producing clear, sharp images. Its high image rendering power, with “dot-on-dot” quality from wide-open to the corners of the image, is a powerful tool for capturing small light sources at infinity in low-light environments, as well as for shooting starry skies. Furthermore, thanks to the latest optical design and the use of a large, high-precision double-sided aspheric lens, a front filter can be attached to the 20mm F1.4 lens even though it is a 20mm F1.4 lens at the same time as offering high optical performance. It can also be used in combination with a rear filter holder, greatly expanding the range of expression of a large-aperture ultra-wide-angle lens. The compact lens body is fully equipped with new functions for a variety of shooting scenes, not to mention full-fledged starscape photography, giving shape to the ideal 20mm F1.4 lens.
- A new standard for “starry landscape lenses” that demonstrates the highest optical performance by fully utilizing all available technologies
The SIGMA 20mm F1.4 DG DN Art delivers outstanding image rendering performance that meets the ideals of professional and high-end users in starry landscape photography, where high image reproducibility is required. 17 elements in 15 groups, 2 SLD glass elements and 3 aspherical lens elements are used to compensate for various aberrations and achieve high image reproducibility from shooting at a maximum aperture of F1.4. The lens has a maximum aperture of 1.4 and achieves high point image reproducibility from the center of the image to the periphery, with no image flow and clear, high uniformity. The SIGMA 20mm F1.4 DG HSM Art, SIGMA 14mm F1.8 DG HSM Art, SIGMA 14mm F1.8 DG HSM Art, SIGMA 20mm F1.4 DG HSM Art, SIGMA 14mm F1.8 DG HSM Art, and SIGMA 20mm F1.4 DG HSM Art are all lenses with the same large aspherical lens surface. The ultimate lens for shooting starry landscapes was made possible by the design technological know-how gained through the production of a variety of large-aperture ultra-wide-angle and large-aperture lenses, including the SIGMA 20mm F1.4 DG HSM Art, SIGMA 14mm F1.8 DG HSM Art and SIGMA 14-24mm F2.8 DG DN Art, and the high-precision processing technology of Sigma's production plants.
- Enhanced specifications with new features designed for harsh shooting environments
Sigma's high-precision manufacturing and processing technology and design optimized for mirrorless cameras have made it possible to attach front filters to large-diameter ultra-wide-angle lenses, which was previously difficult. Furthermore, since a rear filter holder is included as standard equipment, the front and rear filters can be used in different ways or in combination depending on the shooting scene to expand the range of expression of large-aperture ultra-wide-angle lenses. Especially when shooting starry landscapes, the front filter can be used to cut light pollution and the rear filter can be used as a soft filter, allowing for flexible filter work. The newly equipped “MFL Switch” allows you to concentrate on shooting without worrying about shifting the focus position even if you touch the focus ring unexpectedly. The lens barrel also features a “lens heater retainer” to properly attach a lens heater to prevent condensation from forming inside the lens when the temperature drops during nighttime stargazing. This retainer prevents the lens heater, which wraps around the lens barrel, from protruding into the front of the lens and causing vignetting on the periphery of the image. The compact and lightweight lens body, designed to take advantage of the short flange back, is equipped with more functions than its compact appearance would suggest, making it truly an ideal lens for shooting starry landscapes.
- High usability and build quality with attention to detail
The lens body is dustproof and drip-proof* with sealed joints between parts and buttons. In addition, the frontmost surface of the lens is coated with a water and stain repellent coating, making it safe to use even in shooting environments such as starry landscapes. The aperture ring lock switch and MFL switch prevent unintended operation, and the included flower-shaped hood with anti-slip rubber parts and a lock mechanism to prevent it from falling off supports reliable operation in all shooting situations. The aperture ring click switch can be used to turn the aperture ring click on and off, allowing you to enjoy the sound and feel of the click or smoothly control the aperture during video shooting with a single lens. The SIGMA Art F1.4 series has a high build quality that pursues the value required of photographic equipment in every detail, not to mention the quality of the SIGMA Art F1.4 series, with durability that can withstand professional use, a good feel for each control, and uncompromising attention to every single accessory.
(* The construction is dustproof and drip-proof, and can be used in light rain, etc., but is not waterproof.)
