- A new generation of ★ (star) lenses in pursuit of ideal image quality
In anticipation of the further evolution of cameras in the future, the new generation of ★ (star) lenses have been designed to achieve a significant improvement in resolving power, especially in correcting various aberrations to the utmost limit to achieve sharp and clear image quality from the center to the periphery. The optical system is equipped with one ED glass element, two ED glass aspherical lens elements, and one anomalous low-dispersion glass element to effectively suppress chromatic aberration across the entire zoom range, and the high-performance "HD Coating" multi-coating, which suppresses average reflectance in the visible light range to approximately 50% or less compared to the conventional coating. This coating effectively suppresses ghosting and flare under severe shooting conditions such as backlighting.
In addition to extremely high contrast and resolution performance from the maximum aperture, you can enjoy the beauty of gently blurred out-of-focus effects and a three-dimensional effect. This large-aperture zoom lens has a maximum aperture of 2.8 throughout the entire focal length range of 16-50mm (equivalent to 24.5-76.5mm in 35mm format), making it ideal for use as a regular lens for the PENTAX K-3 Mark III.

- High-speed AF and minimum focus distance of 0.3m
The focus lens group has been made smaller and lighter by adopting a newly designed zoom optical system, and the latest PLM (Pulse Motor) drives the lens for high-speed, quiet, and smooth autofocusing. The minimum focusing distance of 0.3m and maximum magnification of 0.24x have been achieved through the use of an innovative focusing system, making the lens suitable for a wide range of everyday shooting, from everyday snapshots to close-up shots and landscapes.

- Electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism for high-precision control
An electromagnetic diaphragm is used for the aperture mechanism. When used in combination with a compatible digital SLR camera, it enables high-precision exposure control. Even if there are large brightness changes during movie recording, natural auto-exposure can be achieved. In combination with the PENTAX K-3 Mark III, PENTAX KP, and PENTAX K-70, the use of the PLM (Pules Motor) coupled with smooth focus tracking and exposure control prevents focus drive noise and aperture movement noise from entering movies. Smooth movie recording is possible in places with large brightness changes, such as in stage lighting where the brightness changes rapidly or in forests with sunlight filtering through the trees, as well as when shooting sports, animals, and other moving subjects.
The KAF4 mount is compatible with an electromagnetic diaphragm. Compatible models are PENTAX K-3 Mark III, K-3 II, K-3, KP, K-70, K-50, K-S2, K-S1, K-1 Mark II, and K-1. When the K-1 Mark II or K-1 is attached, the camera will use crop mode because the image circle is designed exclusively for APS-C.
