5.5x high-power zoom lens that covers a wide range from mid-telephoto to super-telephoto.

The new AF mechanism achieves a significant increase in AF speed.

- High-speed AF
The focus lens, which is 93.6% lighter (*1) thanks to the rear focus system, is driven by a PLM (Pulse Motor) directly connected to the lead screw, achieving a speedup of approximately 8.3 times (*2) at the wide-angle side and 1.7 times (*3) at the telephoto side compared to the current lens (*1), while also being quieter. Furthermore, when used with the PENTAX K-70 digital SLR camera, an improved algorithm with higher precision AF information exchanged between the lens and body enables smooth AF even with dark subjects and reduces AF time. In addition, the manual focus operation of the Power Focus has also been improved to enhance the rotational detection accuracy and responsiveness of the distance ring, enabling smooth focus lens movement in accordance with the operation of the distance ring.

- Quiet autofocus and electromagnetic diaphragm suitable for movie shooting
The first K-mount lens to feature an electromagnetic diaphragm (*3). When used with the PENTAX K-70 digital SLR camera, smooth and precise exposure control is possible in movie mode. This enables natural auto-exposure even with large brightness changes during movie recording, and combined with the use of the PLM (Pules Motor), smooth focus tracking and exposure control are achieved while preventing focus drive noise and aperture movement noise from entering the movie. Smooth video can be obtained when shooting in places with large brightness changes, such as on a stage or in a forest with sunlight filtering through the trees, or when shooting sports, animals, or other moving subjects.

*3: The KAF4 mount uses an electromagnetic diaphragm and is compatible with the KP, K-70, K-1, K-3 II, K-3, K-S2, K-S1, K-50. The firmware update is required for K-1, K-3 II, K-3, K-S2, K-S1, and K-50. Please always use the latest firmware. If the firmware is not compatible with your camera body, the aperture will not move and the exposure will not be matched.

- High image quality and minimum focus distance of 0.95m
This is a 5.5x telephoto zoom lens with a focal length equivalent to 84.5-460mm (35mm film camera equivalent) (*when mounted on a PENTAX APS-C size SLR camera), providing an angle of view from medium telephoto to super telephoto range. 14 elements in 11 groups and 1 element of special low-dispersion (ED) glass are used to effectively suppress spherical aberration, chromatic aberration, and other aberrations to achieve a wide field of view. The lens effectively suppresses spherical aberration and chromatic aberration, etc., and delivers a detailed image with less color bleeding from wide to telephoto and enhanced contrast and resolving power from the center to the periphery. In addition, the rear-focusing system achieves a minimum focusing distance of 0.95m, and the lens does not extend during autofocusing, making it easy to use and suitable for outdoor, sports, landscape, and other various types of photography.

- Compact telephoto zoom
The compact and lightweight design with a sinking body structure achieves an overall length of 89mm. Weighing only 442g, it is easy to carry in a bag and enjoy shooting with ease.

- Drip-proof construction
The lens is sealed in 11 locations to prevent water droplets from entering the lens. Combined with a Ricoh digital SLR camera body that is drip-proof, the lens offers improved reliability in the rain, fog, or splashing water.

- HD Coating" for enhanced descriptive performance
The latest high-performance multi-coating "HD Coating" is employed. Compared to conventional multi-coatings, the HD Coating is less reflective and has higher transmittance, which reduces ghosting and flare in backlit and other harsh lighting conditions, resulting in clear images with high contrast.
