Product Features
A fisheye lens with a diagonal angle of view of 180° that combines a large aperture of F1.8 with unparalleled optical performance. The fisheye lens offers new ways of expression, such as macro photography that only a fisheye lens can provide, taking advantage of the minimum focusing distance of 12cm.
- The world's first*1 f/1.8 fisheye lens that opens up a new world
The world's first fisheye lens with a diagonal angle of view of 180° and a large aperture of F1.8. This lens is 1.3 stops brighter than conventional fisheye lenses, which have a maximum aperture of F2.8, and allows for faster shutter speeds, which in combination with the powerful in-body image stabilization mechanism, enables handheld shooting of starry skies as well as night scenes.
The lens also offers a wider range of shooting situations, such as underwater photography, which not only suppresses subject blur but also extends the range of light when shooting with a flash.
(*1: For interchangeable lenses, as of May 12, 2015.)
- Unparalleled optical performance that delivers sharp images from the center to the periphery
The lens achieves overwhelmingly high resolution, surpassing the optical performance of the ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 8mm F3.5 Fisheye, a High Grade lens that has been well-received for its outstanding descriptive power, at a maximum aperture value of F1.8. We have created a lens with optical performance that delivers outstanding resolution from the center to the periphery, even at the maximum aperture value, for use in night and starscape photography.
Thanks to its unparalleled optical performance that thoroughly suppresses chromatic aberration and coma aberration, the lens also offers excellent spot performance for capturing stars and other dots in the starry sky. There is also virtually no light falloff at the periphery of the image.
In order to achieve excellent descriptive performance from maximum aperture, special lenses such as Super ED lens, ED lens, Super HR lens, and HR lens are lavishly used, and the lens diameter is suppressed by using HR lens in the front element to keep the body lightweight and compact despite the large aperture F1.8. The ZERO (Zuiko Extra-low Reflection Optical) coating, which reduces ghosting and flare to the utmost limit, is effectively used to make the lens resistant to backlighting.
- Dustproof and drip-proof mechanism allows nature macro photography with a close-up range of 2.5cm from the lens tip.
This lens is part of the M.ZUIKO PRO professional lens series, which offers high optical performance, dustproof and drip-proof performance, and robustness to provide consistently high image quality under any conditions. The lens is dustproof and drip-proof with six sealed locations to prevent dust and water from entering the lens, and is also resistant to temperatures as low as -10°C, making it ideal for outdoor and nature photography.
The lens allows the photographer to get as close to the subject as 2.5 cm (minimum focus distance of 12 cm) from the tip of the lens and to shoot at a maximum magnification of 0.20x (0.40x on a 35 mm film camera). It is also possible to take nature macro shots that make the most of the background.
- Other Features
Fixed lens hood. It effectively cuts off unwanted light entering the lens. Plastic was chosen as the material for the hood. The hood is made of plastic to ensure impact resistance and prevent vignetting due to deformation of the hood.
