Product Features
- Unique and distinctive descriptive characteristics
By intentionally tuning the lens design, when shooting in strong backlit conditions (*1) with the aperture wide open (*2), a phenomenon generally known as "iridescent flare" is generated and can be captured in the photograph.
By taking advantage of the position and size of the iridescent flare, which varies depending on the location of the light source and the subject, you can enjoy unique and distinctive renditions that cannot be experienced with lenses of the latest design. By stopping down the aperture to f/4 or more, you can also take clear pictures with less ghosting and flare in addition to the iridescent flare.
*1: When shooting, attach the supplied ND filter or a commercially available ND filter that reduces light intensity to 1/16 or less. Be careful not to look directly at a strong light source through the optical viewfinder.
*2: "Iridescent flare" tends to be less likely to occur when mounted on a digital SLR camera with an APS-C size sensor that uses the center of the image circle.
- Retro Design
Following the design of the "smc PENTAX-FA50mmF1.4", the exterior has a black matte finish and a matte black focus ring. The green lens ring, which has been a design feature of our recent digital lenses, has been omitted to give the lens a retro design reminiscent of the days of film SLR cameras.
When mounted on our digital SLR cameras, the lens provides a standard angle of view of 50mm on a full-size camera and a medium telephoto angle of view equivalent to 76.5mm on a 35mm format on an APS-C camera. As a standard lens that provides an angle of view close to the human field of view at full size, this lens is ideal for a variety of subjects, including snaps, landscapes, and portraits.
A large f/1.4 maximum aperture allows for photographic expression that takes advantage of a very shallow depth of field.
SP (Super Protect) coating on the front of the lens is highly effective in repelling water and oil and is easy to wipe clean.
An 8-element circular aperture suppresses glow when shooting point light sources and produces a soft bokeh effect from maximum aperture to F2.8.
The lens is designed to support aperture setting on the lens side and AF by the in-body motor, so that each function can be used when attached to older K-mount digital SLR cameras, AF film SLR cameras, and other cameras.
