Product Features
- EOS Highest Resolution Performance*1 approx. 45-megapixel 35mm full-size CMOS sensor x DIGIC X imaging engine
Newly developed full-size CMOS sensor, DIGIC X, and RF lens. The full performance of each of these elements has been extracted in pursuit of improved image quality in terms of resolution, noise, and optical characteristics. The resolution performance exceeds that of all EOS lenses.
*1 Among Canon interchangeable lens digital cameras released as of July 8, 2020 (based on Canon research)
- World's highest*1 8.0 stops*2 image stabil ization
EOS' first in-body 5-axis image stabilization mechanism. By cooperative control with the in-lens optical image stabilization mechanism, a maximum of 8.0 stops of image stabilization is achieved when using RF lenses.
Even when combined with a lens not equipped with IS, the 5-axis image stabilization mechanism provides optimal image stabilization from wide-angle to telephoto side, depending on the camera and lens combination.
*1 In interchangeable lens digital cameras already released as of July 8, 2020 (EOS R5 and EOS R6 have the same maximum 8.0-stop image stabilization effect).
*2 Based on CIPA test standards, with RF24-105mm F4 L IS USM at f=105mm.
- Advanced high-speed, high-precision AF Dual Pixel CMOS AF II
Faster and more precise AF for both still images and movies. With Dual Pixel CMOS AF II, the maximum distance measurement area has been expanded to approximately 100% (horizontal) x 100% (vertical). In the optional selection mode, the AF area is expanded to a maximum of (horizontal) 90% × (vertical) 100%. The number of AF area divisions during automatic selection has been finely divided into a maximum of 1053 divisions. Subject detection and tracking performance have been improved.
World's fastest AF speed of 0.05 sec.
The world's fastest AF speed of 0.05 sec. when the RF24-105mm F4 L IS USM is attached, providing excellent AF responsiveness and making it easier to capture a subject's momentary movement.
*As of image sensor phase detection AF and contrast AF of interchangeable lens digital mirrorless cameras with 35mm full-size equivalent image sensors sold as of July 8, 2020 (based on Canon research)
Eye/Head Detection & Animal Detection
EOS iTR AF X] achieves highly accurate subject recognition capability through algorithms developed using deep learning technology. In addition to human pupil and face detection, head detection is now possible. The camera tenaciously captures human subjects under a wide range of conditions, including distance to the subject, direction of the subject, and movement of the subject. In addition, the camera can detect the whole body, face, and pupils of animals (dogs, cats, and birds)*1, enabling highly accurate focusing and tracking that is unaffected by the size of the subject, the orientation of the face, or the tilt of the subject.
*1 Depending on the subject, it may not be possible to detect animals. Animal detection may also be performed on subjects that are not dogs, cats, or birds.
High-speed, high-resolution images that expand the range of expression
The high readout speed of the 35mm full-size CMOS sensor developed in-house and the high-speed processing capability of the DIGIC X imaging engine have resulted in an unprecedented EOS. The EOSR5 delivers performance that further expands the realm of expression, including evolution of high image quality and high sensitivity, high-speed continuous shooting performance, and 8K/30P (EOSR5) movie recording capability.
- High-speed continuous shooting up to approx. 20 frames/second with electronic shutter
High-speed continuous shooting of up to approximately 20 frames/second*1 (when using the electronic shutter) is achieved. The camera is equipped with High Speed Continuous Shooting+, which enables high-speed continuous shooting at a maximum of approximately 12 frames/second*2 even when using a mechanical shutter or electronic pre-curtain.
*1 Excluding the use of EF-S lenses. When the aperture is wide open. Continuous shooting speed varies depending on shutter speed, aperture, aperture state during continuous shooting, subject conditions, brightness, or lens type.
*2 When using RF lenses and some EF lenses. Continuous shooting speed varies in up to 3 stages depending on battery type, remaining battery charge, whether or not a battery grip/WFT is used, number of batteries, DC coupler, USB power adapter, lens used, temperature, built-in Wi-Fi on/off, etc.
- World's first* 18K*2/30P video recording8K/30P and 4K/120P video
The EOS R5 is the world's first 8K (8192 x 4320)/30P, 12-bit RAW internal recording. Since the camera shoots without cropping, the features of the full-size wide-angle lens can be fully utilized. The camera also supports 4K recording at up to 60P (high frame rate video: EOS R5: 4K/120P, EOS R6: Full HD/120P).
*1 8K (29.97fps/25.00fps) in interchangeable lens digital cameras released as of July 8, 2020 (based on Canon research). Crop [not] only.
*2 As the camera temperature rises, the maximum possible shooting time for 8K video (RAW, DCI, UHD) is approximately 20 minutes (at room temperature), and for 4K/60P (crop: [on]) video, the maximum possible shooting time is 25 minutes (at room temperature). The shooting time will be further shortened if the temperature inside the camera rises due to shooting conditions or the surrounding environment.
*3 8K DCI is possible in RAW/ALL-I/IPB.
