Canon's first*1 VR lens with two 5.2mm fisheye lenses.

Attached to the EOS R5*2, it can easily capture 180° 3D VR images, offering not only the high image quality that only an L-lens can offer, but also the twin-lens motorized iris diaphragm (EMD) and gelatin folder holder for comfortable shooting.

1. High-quality 3D 180-degree VR images unique to the "L lens

- The "L (Luxury)" lens pursues the highest standards in terms of image quality, operability, and robustness. The large aperture of 2.8 enables bright, high-quality images.

- Equipped with two fisheye lenses, it is possible to capture 3D 180-degree VR images using parallax between the left and right sides.

- Compared to 360-degree images, 180-degree VR images have half the field of view and less data volume, making it easy to handle high-definition images and suitable for creating a sense of realism.

- High image quality is achieved by utilizing the short back focus, which is a feature of the RF Mount, and by effectively arranging two "UD lenses*1" in each of the two fisheye lenses. In addition, the lens configuration has been optimized for optical path bending to achieve natural parallax with a baseline length of 60mm.

2. High image quality shooting in combination with the mirrorless camera "EOS R5" including 8K output

- In combination with the "EOS R5", high-definition 8K 180-degree VR images can be output, providing a highly immersive experience.

- High-quality shooting is possible even in dimly lit scenes or scenes with intentionally low light levels, thanks to the brightness of the 2.8 maximum aperture, the high-sensitivity CMOS sensor of the "EOS R5," and the high noise processing capability of the "DIGIC X" imaging engine.

3. efficient workflow from shooting to editing

- Light incident from each of the twin lenses can be recorded through a single CMOS sensor. This streamlines the video production workflow by eliminating the need for camera position adjustment and synchronization settings prior to shooting, and editing (stitching) to join images together after shooting.

- By using either EOS Utility*1, an application that allows camera settings and image transfer on a PC, or Camera Connect*2, an application that allows checking images and changing settings on a smartphone, remote shooting, which is frequently used in VR image production, is possible.

"Three tools to further streamline your workflow"

Easily edit as well as shoot VR movies. Various tools for remote shooting, playback, and conversion support creators who aim for high quality video production.

- EOS Utility" and "Camera Connect" (free of charge)

EOS Utility" supports remote shooting from a PC via wired or wireless connection. It is possible to switch between [Circumferential Fisheye / Orthogonal Cylinder] and [Left / Right] in Live View shooting. Camera Connect" enables remote shooting via Wi-Fi connection to a smartphone or tablet. This is convenient for outdoor shooting.

* Functions not compatible with VR are limited.

* When zoomed in, the image is not converted to a regular cylindrical view.

- EOS VR Utility" VR movie checking/conversion application (paid service)

The application can switch left and right fisheye images, which are recorded in reverse due to the construction of the lens, convert to the equirectangular cylindrical view (for both movies and still images), perform various lens corrections (parallax correction, horizontal correction), and perform playback and simple cut editing. It also supports conversion of 8K video to 4K or larger image size and storage format, and look-up tables for Canon Log video.

- Video editing plug-in "EOS VR Plugin for Adobe Premiere Pro" (paid service)

Converts 180° VR images into a format that Adobe Premiere Pro can handle (left-right swap, equirectangular cylindrical view). The captured data can be directly edited. Parallax correction and horizontal correction are also supported.
