Product Features
The world's first and only* ultra-wide-angle lens with a maximum aperture of F1.8
A long-awaited lens that achieves F1.8 brightness
(*In interchangeable lenses for digital SLR cameras (as of February 2017))
- A true high-speed lens that enables a visual experience of another dimension.
A large-aperture lens that allows you to select a fast shutter speed without increasing ISO sensitivity, even in scenes where you want to capture the momentary movement of the subject, such as shooting starscapes and night scenes using an ultra-wide-angle lens, or shooting expressive surfaces using the wide perspective of the subject. The SIGMA 14mm F1.8 DG HSM Art is a long-awaited lens for users who have been looking for an "ultra-wide-angle high-speed lens. 14mm is an angle of view that can be covered by zoom lenses, but it can also be used for scenes that require fast shutter speeds. The large F1.8 aperture lens offers significant advantages not only in scenes requiring high shutter speeds, but also in scenes where you want to control bokeh and light trails, such as photographing a school of fireflies.
- The Art line for a high level of artistic expression
Sigma interchangeable lenses are categorized into three product lines, Contemporary, Art, and Sports, each with its own distinct concept. The Art line was developed by focusing all design elements on the highest optical performance and rich expressiveness. With its overwhelming descriptive performance that meets the most demanding standards, the Art line is suitable for landscapes, portraits, still-life, close-ups, and snapshots, as well as for creating photographs that make the most of the photographer's creativity. It is also suitable for studio photography, architecture, astronomy, and all other genres of expression.
- Seventh 35mm full-frame compatible single focal length Art lens
Since the launch of the first SIGMA 35mm F1.4 DG HSM Art in 2012, the Art line has developed a variety of products, and this SIGMA 14mm F1.8 DG HSM Art is the seventh 35mm full-frame compatible single focal length lens. The lineup has been expanded as a new standard for single focal length lenses in the ultra-high pixel era.
- A world of another dimension created by the ultra wide-angle 14mm F1.8 lens
Ultra wide-angle lenses offer a wide angle of view and perspective, allowing photographers to transcend the sense of sight, reflecting the vastness of the surrounding scene while getting close to the subject. In ultra-wide-angle photography with a deep depth of field, the shallow depth of field of the SIGMA 14mm F1.8 DG HSM Art's F1.8 maximum aperture allows you to create a blur that reflects the surrounding scene, enabling new and unprecedented expressions.
- Excellent correction of chromatic aberration
The use of three FLD glass elements and four SLD glass elements provides excellent correction of lateral chromatic aberration, which is particularly noticeable in ultra-wide-angle lenses. High image quality is achieved from the center to the periphery of the image.
- Thoroughly Corrected Distortion
Distortion is effectively suppressed by using a large-diameter φ80mm glass-molded aspheric lens at the front of the lens. The lens also has abundant peripheral light intensity, providing high descriptive performance all the way to the corners of the image.
- Large-aperture aspherical lens
Utilizing the aspherical lens processing know-how established with the SIGMA 12-24mm F4 DG HSM Art, a high-precision φ80mm large-diameter glass-molded aspherical lens is employed at the front of the lens. This has enabled the commercialization of a 14mm F1.8 lens with specifications that did not exist until now.
- Large HSM enables comfortable autofocusing
The large HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) provides sufficient torque to drive the focus group and enables stable operation at low speeds. In addition, the optimized AF algorithm enables comfortable autofocus shooting.
- Simple dustproof and drip-proof construction at the mount
The mount section, where dust and other contaminants are most likely to enter, is protected by a rubber sealing*. The front element is coated with a water- and stain-repellent coating to enable shooting in a variety of conditions, such as in the rain or near water where splashes of water may occur.
* Except for Sigma mount lenses.
- Compatible with Sigma's Mount Exchange Service (paid service)
Sigma has leveraged its know-how and resources accumulated through the production of a wide variety of interchangeable lenses to offer a "Mount Exchange Service" that allows photographers to change the specifications of the mounts and internal systems of the new concept line to the mount of their choice. This allows photographers to "fix" their favorite lenses to match the new camera body they will be purchasing in the future, and to use them for a long time without being restricted by their current camera system.
