Product Features
The Leica Summilux M 1.4/28mm ASPH. is the first Leica M lens to combine an extremely bright f/1.4 aperture with a typical wide-angle focal length of 28mm, making it ideal for photojournalism as well as for shooting buildings and landscapes in a variety of light conditions It is the first Leica M lens to combine a 28mm focal length with a general wide angle of view. In addition to outstanding image rendition and outstanding sharpness of the in-focus area, the extremely shallow depth of field allows the photographer to make the most of the bokeh effect.
In addition to its excellent descriptive performance over the entire effective working distance, this product reproduces even the most minute details with high contrast and renders details over the entire shooting range. The optical system employs a floating system in which the lens group behind the aperture changes its position relative to the lens in the front group in response to focusing, providing high descriptive performance even when shooting at short distances. In addition, seven lenses with anomalous partial-dispersion glass are used, and sufficient care has been taken to correct chromatic aberration. Contrast gradation is uniform and stable over the entire shooting range from infinity to the minimum focusing distance.
The lens is composed of 10 elements in 7 groups, one of which is an aspherical lens with a different curvature from that of spherical lenses, which contributes greatly to the compact size of the lens body. The lens itself is also extremely lightweight, weighing only 440g, making it convenient for shooting on the go or at news sites.
As with all Leica lenses, the design and development was carried out by Leica specialists, who put their advanced know-how into both the optics and the mechanism. They are also meticulously manufactured by hand using only the highest quality materials, ensuring extreme reliability as lenses that will retain their value for many years to come. The combination of state-of-the-art technology and painstaking manufacturing processes guarantees the superior quality of every Leica lens.
The full-metal lens hood is included with the lens, effectively preventing unnecessary light from reducing contrast and preventing the front lens from being damaged or contaminated.
