Product Features
A large-aperture standard zoom lens that achieves class-leading high performance and image quality, is strong even when shooting in backlit conditions, and has an image stabilization of 5 stops (*1).
- Top-level performance and image quality lens in its class
This f/2.8 large-aperture standard zoom lens offers class-leading high performance and high image quality, and is compatible with the latest high-resolution cameras. The lens construction consists of 17 elements in 12 groups, including two XR (Extra Refractive Index) elements for compactness and excellent correction of aberrations, and three LD (Low Dispersion) elements to reduce axial chromatic aberration, which tends to occur at the telephoto end, and lateral chromatic aberration, which is a problem at the wide angle end, Three GM (Glass Molded Aspherical) lenses and one compound aspherical lens are used to effectively correct spherical aberration and distortion and achieve high image quality. In addition, the use of glass material with higher transmittance realizes excellent color reproduction and image rendering performance.
- eBAND Coating" thoroughly suppresses ghosting and flare
The eBAND (Extended Bandwidth & Angular-Dependency) Coating and the BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) Coating, which combine a nanostructured film with an ultra-low refractive index and conventional multi-coating technology to provide excellent anti-reflection performance, have been optimally applied. The eBAND (Extended Bandwidth & Angular-Dependency) coating, which combines conventional multi-coating technologies, and the BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) coating have been optimally applied, resulting in strong suppression of ghosting and flare that can occur in backlit conditions.
- New control system: Dual MPU (microprocessor) system (*3) improves AF speed and image stabilization performance.
The new control system employs a dual MPU system with an additional MPU dedicated to image stabilization processing to improve the computing power of the entire system. The MPU with a built-in DSP (Digital Signal Processor) block, which has high signal processing capacity, achieves fast and precise AF performance and reliable image stabilization performance.
- Dramatic Improvement of AF Accuracy and Speed by Adoption of High Performance MPU
In order to achieve excellent AF performance in terms of response and accuracy to signals from the camera, an MPU with a built-in DSP block capable of high-speed digital signal processing has been adopted.
- Adoption of an MPU dedicated to the VC (Vibration Compensation) image stabilization mechanism achieves a class-leading (*2) 5-step (*1) image stabilization
Tamron's proprietary VC (Vibration Compensation) image stabilization mechanism is incorporated. New MPU dedicated to image stabilization processing and a new control algorithm. The VC system achieves an image stabilization performance of 5 stops (*1), which is the highest in its class (*2). This allows users to enjoy a higher degree of freedom in hand-held photography in low-light conditions, where camera shake is more likely to occur.
- Dirt-repellent coating and simple drip-proof construction for use in a variety of shooting scenarios
The frontmost lens is coated with a fluorine compound that is highly water- and oil-repellent and stain-resistant. Dust, water droplets, hand grease, and other contaminants adhering to the lens surface can be easily wiped off, making maintenance easy. In consideration of outdoor shooting, the lens barrel is equipped with a simple drip-proof construction with drip-proof seals at various movable parts and joints to prevent water drops from entering the lens.
- Newly equipped with a locking mechanism on the hood
The hood is equipped with a lock mechanism to prevent the hood from coming off due to unintentional contact.
- Compatible with the TAMRON TAP-in Console, an accessory sold separately
The TAMRON TAP-in Console is an accessory that allows users to customize the lens firmware updates, AF focus position, full-time manual settings, and image stabilization mode selection.
- Adoption of Electromagnetic Aperture System for Nikon
The electromagnetic diaphragm system, in which the aperture blades are driven and controlled by a motor built into the lens body, has been adopted for Nikon (*4) lenses. This enables more precise aperture drive. (The electromagnetic diaphragm system has already been adopted for Canon lenses.)
*1: Based on CIPA (Camera & Imaging Products Association) standards. For Canon: When using EOS-5DMKIII, For Nikon: When using D810
*2: With 24-70mm F/2.8 lens for 35mm-format full-frame digital SLR cameras. (As of May 2017. Tamron research)
*3: A new control system using two high-performance MPUs (microprocessors).
