Product Features
- AF system supporting high speed and high image quality
The AF system tenaciously tracks (tracks) moving objects that confront it. That is the AF performance of the "7. Inheriting its DNA, the EOS R7 supports not only stable detection of people, but also animals*1 and vehicles*2. The AF performance has been enhanced with a subject detection function developed using deep learning. This high-speed, high-precision AF is made possible by Dual Pixel CMOS AF II, which provides a large distance measurement area of up to approximately 100% (horizontal) × 100% (vertical) when detecting a subject*3. The combination of subject detection and tracking performance allows the photographer to focus on the composition of the subject without moving the camera, even when the subject is moving throughout the image.
- EOS iTR*4 AF X detects and tracks subject features
The EOS iTR*4 AF X delivers the same highly accurate subject recognition capability as the EOS R3. When a subject is captured on the screen, the camera determines the features of the subject, detects the AF target, and starts tracking.
Human detection: The camera can detect eyes, face, head, and torso. Stable tracking is maintained even in situations where the camera cannot detect the face or head due to intense movement. The powerful "Pupil" detection function detects pupils with high accuracy even in scenes where it has been difficult to recognize pupils, such as in profile, in facial shadows, and when a mask is worn.
Animal Priority (dogs, cats, birds)*1: Captures and detects eyes, face, and whole body. Quick and accurate focusing is possible regardless of the size or orientation of the animal.
Vehicle Priority*2: Effective for motor sports (four-wheeled and two-wheeled vehicles) where the subject is moving at high speed. It tenaciously tracks motorsports cars**3 (formula cars, GT cars, rally cars, etc.) and motorcycles (motorcycles, off-road bikes).
- EOSR series' fastest*5 high-speed continuous shooting mechanical shutter up to approx. 15 frames/second*6
The EOS R series' fastest*5 high-speed continuous shooting (mechanical shutter/electronic first curtain). Aggressive dynamic photography can be taken without worrying about rolling shutter distortion*7.
- Electronic shutter speed of up to approx. 30 frames/second (AF/AE tracking)*8
- High-density distance measurement area with up to 5915 positions
- Equipped with RAW burst mode
- Silent shutter function
*1Animal detection may not be possible depending on the subject. Animal detection may also be performed on subjects that are not dogs, cats, or birds.
*2Vehicles such as passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and motorcycles may not be detected. Depending on the subject, the system may not be able to detect vehicles. Vehicles may also be detected on subjects that are not cars or motorcycles.
*3When a lens with a 90% (horizontal) × 100% (vertical) distance measurement area is attached and the entire AF range is used, or when a subject is detected in an AF mode other than the entire AF range. Depending on the scene or subject, the AF frame may not be able to move to the corners of the focusing area.
*4Intelligent tracking and recognition.
*5 For EOS R series cameras already released as of May 23, 2022; EOS R7 and EOS R10 have the same maximum speed of approximately 15 frames per second.
*6 Continuous shooting speed may decrease depending on subject/shooting conditions, camera settings, type and condition of battery used, lenses used, etc.
*7 Rolling shutter distortion may occur depending on the subject and shooting conditions. The flash cannot be used with the electronic shutter.
*8Continuous shooting speed may decrease depending on subject/shooting conditions, camera settings, lenses used, etc.
- Highest resolution performance in APS-C EOS history*1
The newly developed maximum approx. 32.5 megapixel*2 APS-C size CMOS sensor and DIGIC X imaging engine achieve the highest resolution performance in the history of APS-C EOS. It also contributes to high-sensitivity performance, high-speed continuous shooting performance, and the realization of 4K UHD Fine movies. The DIGIC X expands the new shooting range that could not be reached with the previous APS-C models.
- Maximum normal ISO sensitivity of 32,000*3
- 5-axis compatibility, world's highest level*4 of 8.0 stops of image stabilization
- HDR PQ shooting
- Digital Lens Optimizer
- Sub-electronic dial that can be operated with minimal movement
- Approx. 2.36 million-dot OLED electronic
*1 Evaluated on the CIPA resolution chart in accordance with ISO12233 on APS-C EOS cameras already on the market as of May 23, 2022.
*2 When using RF/EF lenses. Effective pixel count may decrease depending on the lens used or image processing.
*3 Recommended exposure index. Normal ISO sensitivity for movie recording is ISO 100-12800 (sensitivity can be extended up to ISO 25600 equivalent).
*4 In interchangeable lens digital cameras released as of May 23, 2022.
