Product Features

AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/4E PF ED VR" is the first NIKKOR product to adopt a PF lens, which contributes significantly to correcting chromatic aberration and making the lens lighter and smaller.

- Superior Chromatic Aberration Correction Achieved by PF Lens
The PF (Phase Fresnel) lens was developed by Nikon to correct chromatic aberration using the diffraction phenomenon of light. The strong chromatic aberration-correcting effect of the PF lens enables thinner lenses and the use of glass materials with lower specific gravity, making it possible to reduce the weight of the lens.

- The world's lightest lens body, NIKKOR's first lens body with a PF lens that expands the shooting range of the 300mm focal length
NIKKOR's first PF lens is used. The world's lightest(*1) lens body has been achieved through significant weight reduction and downsizing. Compared to the previous product (*2), the new lens body weighs approximately 545g (approx. 42% less), and its overall length (from the reference plane of the lens mount to the tip of the lens) has been reduced by approximately 75mm and its maximum diameter by approximately 1mm. Despite its 300mm focal length, this telephoto lens offers excellent portability and light hand-held shooting. This lens can be used not only in the mountains and for sports, but also for portraits and snapshots in the city, greatly expanding its range of applications.
*1 As of December 19, 2014, as an autofocus (AF) single focal length lens for FX format digital SLR cameras with a focal length of 300mm. Nikon research.
*2 Compared with the AI AF-S Nikkor 300mm f/4D IF-ED released in September 2000 with the tripod mount removed.

- When "1.3× crop to DX" is set, the angle of view is equivalent to a focal length of 585 mm.
When shooting in DX format, the angle of view is equivalent to that of a 450mm focal length lens (*3), making it easy to enjoy ultra-telephoto shooting. In addition, when the Nikon D7100's image capture range is set to "DX 1.3× crop", it is possible to shoot with an angle of view equivalent to a 585mm focal length lens (*3). Furthermore, when combined with the AF-S TELECONVERTER TC-14E III (sold separately), full-fledged ultra-telephoto shooting is possible. The angle of view is equivalent to that of an 819mm focal length lens (*3).
*3 When converted to 35mm film format.

- VR mechanism for image stabilization provides powerful support for telephoto shooting
The camera is equipped with a VR mechanism, which was not available in previous products (*4). The VR mechanism effectively reduces blurring of images caused by camera shake, which tends to occur when shooting hand-held at telephoto distances. The VR mechanism is extremely effective in compensating for camera shake, enabling images to be taken without being affected by camera shake even when the shutter speed is reduced by 4.5 stops (*5) compared to when the VR mode is not used. The camera is also equipped with a VR mode called "SPORT mode," which is suitable for shooting subjects that are moving rapidly. This mode is effective for high-speed continuous shooting, and for streaming shots, with control that emphasizes continuity of the viewfinder image when the camera is stopped and when the camera is shaken. It also provides a stable viewfinder image when shooting sports and other moving subjects.
*4 Compared with the AI AF-S Nikkor 300mm f/4D IF-ED released in September 2000.
*5 Based on CIPA standard, NORMAL mode, when using FX format digital SLR camera.

- Adoption of Nano Crystal Coating for clear images with reduced ghosting
Nikon's unique Nano Crystal Coating, which is trusted by many professionals, is employed. This coating has an extremely high anti-reflective effect over the entire visible light range and effectively reduces ghosting in backlit conditions. The stable, clear image quality allows photographers to enjoy creating authentic works of art in a wide variety of shooting conditions.
