In addition to a mechanism that allows the lens to be retracted simply by rotating the zoom ring, the inner zoom system, which does not change the length of the lens at all focal lengths, suppresses changes in the center of gravity during zooming. The weight of the lens placed on the front side has been drastically reduced by making it smaller and lighter, allowing for light shooting without the "long lens barrel and heavy front side" that is often associated with telephoto lenses.
