A compact and lightweight G lens that covers the mid-telephoto range for full-fledged still and video photography.
This standard zoom lens offers high descriptive performance, AF performance, and mobility, making it suitable for a wide range of situations.

The lens covers a wide range of frequently-used lenses from 24mm wide-angle to 105mm medium telephoto. 4 aspherical lenses including 2 advanced aspherical (AA) lenses and 3 ED (extra-low dispersion) glass elements correct various aberrations to achieve high image rendering performance throughout the entire zoom range, even to the periphery of the image. The lens also has a weight of approximately 663g.

Furthermore, with a weight of approximately 663g, it is the lightest in its class (*1), providing a highly mobile system together with the compact and lightweight α mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera. It also enables close-up photography with a minimum focusing distance of 0.38 m and a maximum magnification of 0.31x. An optical image stabilizer is also built in to support hand-held shooting.

The DDSSM (Direct Drive SSM) provides fast, accurate, and quiet autofocusing with a maximum aperture of f/4 throughout the entire zoom range, making it ideal not only for still photography but also for movie shooting.
