Product Features
A large-aperture standard single-focal length lens that creatively depicts space with its high point-image reproducibility and beautiful bokeh.
When photographing night scenes, this lens depicts even point light sources on the periphery of the image as "dots" at the maximum aperture, and when photographing people and still life, it attractively depicts the appearance of the subject. These contradictory characteristics expand the joy of photographic expression.
- High point image reproducibility from wide-aperture aperture
When shooting night scenes in situations where a tripod cannot be used, it is desirable to use a large-aperture lens and a faster shutter speed to prevent blurring. However, when using a typical large-aperture lens with a wide aperture, an aberration called sagittal coma flare, which causes the image of a point light source to blur into a bird-like shape with its wings outstretched, becomes noticeable. In designing this product, the factors that cause sagittal coma flare were carefully suppressed at a vast number of points throughout the entire image area to achieve high point image reproducibility. This allows you to enjoy crisp night scene photography to the fullest because point light sources are depicted as "dots" without blurring, even at the periphery of the image.
- Sharp rendering with high resolution of landscapes even at wide-open aperture
Coma flare can cause contrast loss even during daytime shooting. This product is a large-aperture lens with a maximum aperture of 1.4, yet it renders extremely sharp, high-contrast images of even distant subjects. Even when shooting landscapes, the lens delivers crisp, clear images from the widest aperture.
- Natural sense of depth with beautiful bokeh effect
The lens is designed to capture not only distant scenes such as night scenes, but also three-dimensional subjects such as people and still life at close range in an attractive manner. The bokeh, which changes gently from the focus plane, has no unnatural contours and seems to melt into the picture. This beautiful bokeh effect, which cannot be expressed by MTF, gives a sense of depth to the image, and the subject is portrayed in an impressive manner.
- Abundant peripheral light intensity that maintains natural brightness all the way to the periphery of the image at wide-open aperture
Although a large-aperture lens is prone to peripheral light fall-off, the f/1.4 maximum aperture ensures abundant peripheral light even at infinity, when light fall-off is at its lowest. Even when you want to capture evening scenes sharply at high shutter speeds while taking advantage of the descriptive characteristics of point light sources, you can concentrate on shooting at maximum aperture without worrying about insufficient vignetting.
- Nano Crystal Coating effectively reduces flare and ghosting
Flare and ghosting are two of the major causes of lack of sharpness in digital photography. When flare and ghosting occur, even if you try to capture an impressive image of a subject in glaring backlight, the entire image may be blurred, or you may see transparent red or green images that are not there, making it difficult to create the image you want. This product employs Nikon's unique nano crystal coating. This coating has an extremely high anti-reflective effect over the entire visible light range, and in combination with the "three-lens lamination" method that combines good image clarity and reduced reflective surfaces, and the design that positions the front element deep inside the lens barrel, effectively reduces flare and ghosting in backlit conditions.
