In order to achieve the "best 85mm F1.4 lens," the latest design and materials were used sparingly. The high level of chromatic aberration correction delivers outstanding performance, combining sharpness with beautiful bokeh.

- Image quality compatible with ultra-high pixel digital SLR cameras
In addition to two SLD glass elements, the 85mm F1.4 DG HSM Art also features one glass element with a high refractive index and high anomalous partial dispersion. The 85mm F1.4 DG HSM Art uses two SLD glass elements and one glass element with a high refractive index and high abnormal partial dispersion. This enables clear images throughout the entire image range. The lens also takes sagittal coma flare into consideration and delivers blur-free, high-definition images from the widest aperture setting.

- Beautiful bokeh effect characteristic of large-aperture lenses
The use of SLD glass and optimization of the lens power configuration minimizes axial chromatic aberration. Color blurring before and after focusing is thoroughly minimized to achieve a clear image from the focus position to the focus position before and after the focus position, and a natural bokeh effect is also pursued. Aspherical lenses are properly positioned to correct astigmatism and curvature of the image plane. The lens delivers high resolution right up to the periphery of the image.

- Newly designed HSM for comfortable AF operation
The newly designed large HSM provides approximately 1.3 times more torque than conventional motors and stable operation at low speeds, and the AF algorithm has been optimized for comfortable autofocus shooting. The camera is also equipped with a full-time manual mechanism that allows manual focusing by simply turning the focus ring even while the autofocus is in operation. This allows for quick focus adjustment without switching focus mode switches.

The mount is protected by a rubber sealing to prevent dust and debris from entering the mount. The front element is coated with a water- and stain-repellent coating to enable shooting in a variety of conditions, such as in the rain or near water where splashes of water may occur.
