The SIGMA 500mm F5.6 DG DN OS Sports is a super-telephoto single focal length lens exclusively for mirrorless cameras that combines a 500mm super-telephoto lens and high image quality in a remarkably compact and lightweight body.
By employing multiple large-diameter special low-dispersion glass elements, which are difficult to process, the lens construction has been made significantly more compact without the use of diffractive optical elements. At the same time, high resolving power is also achieved.
The lens body, composed mainly of high-precision engineering plastic parts, offers excellent build quality and high weather resistance, including dustproof and drip-proof construction*, despite its compact size.
With its rich descriptive power and incredibly compact size for its focal length, the handy-sized 500mm offers a completely new photographic experience in all situations, from wildlife to airplanes to trains.

- Key Features
The latest optical design using 500mm special low-dispersion glass for hand-held shooting and unparalleled optical performance has succeeded in achieving both an extremely compact lens configuration and high optical performance with good correction of each aberration. In addition to the size that allows hand-held shooting, the high-speed AF with HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) and OS2 image stabilization algorithm support comfortable shooting.

- High optical performance and compact lens configuration
The latest optical design has succeeded in significantly downsizing the optical system for a 500mm telephoto lens. By concentrating a convex lens with strong power using special low-dispersion glass in the front of the lens, the lens achieves both a shortened overall length and high aberration correction capability. The processing of special low-dispersion glass with a large aperture, which is technically difficult, was made possible by the high level of production technology at Sigma's only production site, the Aizu Plant. The lens has excellent aberration correction, especially for axial chromatic aberration, which cannot be corrected from the body side, and has uniform and high resolution from the center to the periphery of the image.

- Excellent backlight resistance
This lens uses refractive lenses in its optical system to prevent flare and ghosting that are characteristic of diffractive optical elements, enabling clear images even in backlit environments or when a light source is included in the image. In addition, the camera is equipped with countermeasures against incident light under all conditions based on state-of-the-art simulation technology.

- High-speed AF with linear motor HLA
A linear motor HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) is used as the actuator, which is characterized by its fast response speed and high driving accuracy. The HLA enables fast and accurate focusing even in ultra-telephoto photography, such as sports and bird photography, where severe focusing is required.

- OS2 image stabilization algorithm
The latest OS2 image stabilization algorithm provides a high image stabilization performance of 5.0 stops*. The camera is equipped with two correction modes: Image Stabilization Mode 1, which is suitable for general shooting, and Image Stabilization Mode 2, which is ideal for streaming shots such as motor sports. In Mode 2, the camera's Intelligent OS, an algorithm specially designed for streaming shots, enables effective image stabilization even when the camera is moved vertically or diagonally, regardless of the horizontal or vertical position of the composition, so that the movement of the subject can be expressed without compromising the effect of streaming shots.

- Compact and lightweight body built with high build quality
The lens body has been designed to be compact and lightweight to match the optical system, which has been made significantly more compact. Not only is the lens easy to handle so that it can be hand-held, but it also has high build quality in terms of weather resistance, texture, and operability of each ring.

- Adoption of OS2 image stabilization algorithm
Materials such as TSC and magnesium are used in appropriate places to make the body both compact and lightweight, as well as robust. The sophisticated processing and production technology of the Aizu Plant, SIGMA's only production site, enables this high degree of precision and ensures the high performance and durability of the lenses. This is the only production site of SIGMA in Japan.
*Polycarbonate has the same thermal shrinkage rate as aluminum. It has high affinity with metal parts and contributes to high-precision product manufacturing.

- A wealth of shooting-assist functions
The camera is equipped with a full range of assist functions and aperture rings, including an AFL button* to which any setting can be assigned from the camera. The camera can be used for a variety of shooting purposes and styles.
