Product Features
High-quality telephoto zoom lens with the highest mobility to meet the demands of professionals.
As a member of the M.ZUIKO PRO category, it offers the highest level of brightness, mobility, and proximity performance.
- Fixed maximum aperture of F2.8 throughout the entire zoom range, the highest image quality offered by Olympus
This product takes advantage of the features of the "Micro Four Thirds System Standard" to achieve a maximum aperture of F2.8 across the entire zoom range, while also providing a compact, lightweight, high-performance lens that covers a telephoto range equivalent to 80-300mm on a 35mm film camera.
In order to create a compact and lightweight lens with optical performance that surpasses the popular SHG (SUPER HIGH GRADE) lenses of the "Four Thirds System Standard," we have effectively used glass materials such as Super ED lens, ED lens, HD lens (high refractive index & high dispersion lens), EDA lens (special low dispersion aspherical EDA lenses (special low dispersion aspherical lenses) and other aspherical lenses are effectively used. In addition, the lens was developed incorporating the latest design technologies, such as the active use of the ZERO (Zuiko Extra-low Reflection Optical) coating that thoroughly eliminates ghosting and flare.
The result is Olympus' highest image quality that meets professional standards from the maximum aperture value across the entire zoom range.
- Mobility with a compact body of unchanged overall length that is equipped with a large-aperture lens and dust and drip-proof mechanism.
While being remarkably compact and lightweight for a large-aperture telephoto zoom with an aperture of f/2.8 for professional use, the lens offers powerful dust-proof and drip-proof performance that enables shooting in the rain when combined with the dust-proof and drip-proof body of the OM-D series flagship E-M1, and a stable center of gravity that does not change its overall length during zooming. These features provide unparalleled mobility, allowing photographers to take pictures anywhere and with minimal equipment.
- The world's first "DUAL VCM Focus System" realizes high-speed, high-precision AF and high close-up performance
The DUAL VCM Focus System is the world's first system that uses two linear motors to drive the floating focusing system. The new design allows the two groups of smaller focus lenses to move simultaneously with high precision and speed, enabling high-speed AF while maintaining high image quality. The new system enables the same high focusing speed as that of the "M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 12-40mm F2.8 PRO" even though it is a telephoto zoom lens.
In addition, the floating compensation system enables a minimum focusing distance of 70 cm (approx. 50 cm at the tip of the lens) over the entire zoom range while maintaining high image quality.
- Combined with the teleconverter, the lens becomes a 112-420mm (*35mm film camera equivalent) telephoto zoom with high image quality and performance.
The M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 1.4x Teleconverter MC-14 (sold separately), the world's first rear converter for a mirrorless camera, is available to match the new PRO lens. By installing it between the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 40-150mm F2.8 PRO and the body, the lens becomes a compact, high-performance telephoto lens with a 35mm film format equivalent of 112mm to 420mm. The minimum focusing distance remains the same, but the maximum magnification increases by 0.6x in 35mm film format equivalent. The teleconverter is specially designed to minimize image quality degradation.
- The lens is equipped with a manual focus (MF) clutch mechanism that allows the user to instantly switch from AF to MF shooting.
- The lens is equipped with the "L-Fn" function button. The "L-Fn" function button is mounted on the lens, enabling the assignment of functions such as "AF stop" in accordance with the camera body's custom settings.
- Dedicated lens hood "LH-76" (included) with slide-lock mechanism that allows the lens hood to slide into place without removing the lens hood.
