The high-performance Zeiss "ZONAR T*" lens is a compact-sized lens that can always be carried around with the α7R and α7 equipped with a 35mm full-frame sensor. As a highly versatile 35mm lens, it can be used in a variety of situations, including landscapes and snapshots. The new optical design achieves a bright F2.8 maximum aperture, which is unique to the Sonnar name, which is derived from the German word Sonne, meaning sun. Three aspherical lenses are used for excellent correction of various aberrations. The lens maintains high contrast at all apertures and high resolving power even in the peripheral range, while at the same time achieving a thoroughly compact design. In addition, the T* coating provides excellent color reproduction, and the linear motor and internal focusing system enable smooth, fast, and quiet focusing. As with the α7R and α7, the lens exterior is dustproof and drip-proof, and is made of high-grade aluminum metal, as befits a Zeiss lens.
