Basic Information

Product Name Camera Lens M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 12-40mm F2.8 PRO II [Micro Four Thirds / zoom lens]
Model No. ED1240MMF2.8PROII

Product Features

High-performance standard zoom lens that covers the entire zoom range from a wide-angle equivalent of 24mm to a medium telephoto equivalent of 80mm with a maximum aperture of F2.8 (35mm film camera equivalent: 24-80mm)

The successor to the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 12-40mm F2.8 PRO (released on November 29, 2013), which has gained support as the "standard" Micro Four Thirds standard zoom lens, the new lens features improved image quality and environmental resistance performance by employing the latest technology. The new lens offers a wide range of focal lengths from wide-angle to mid-telephoto, and allows photographers to take advantage of the high image quality that only "M.ZUIKO PRO" lenses can deliver.

- Standard zoom lens with a fixed maximum aperture of 2.8 that achieves both higher image quality and smaller size and weight
Optical design with 14 elements in 9 groups that deliver high resolving power throughout the entire zoom range
The optical design of 14 elements in 9 groups (including 2 ED lenses, 1 EDA lens, 2 HR lenses, etc.) with 4 aspherical lenses including a DSA lens are effectively arranged to realize excellent image rendering only possible with "M.ZUIKO PRO" lenses, despite their compact size and light weight. By effectively compensating for aberrations caused by zoom fluctuations, the lens delivers high resolution from the center to the periphery of the image across the entire zoom range, from a wide-angle equivalent of 24mm to a medium telephoto equivalent of 80mm (*35mm film camera equivalent). The high image quality can be brought out to the fullest extent even when using the camera body's high-resolution shot function.

Realization of clearer and clearer images than ever before
The latest manufacturing technology suppresses scattering on the aspheric lens surface, significantly reducing flare compared to conventional lenses and achieving clearer, more sharply defined images. The ZERO (Zuiko Extra-low Reflection Optical) coating and other coatings have also been optimized to improve backlight resistance.

- Reliable environmental performance for stress-free shooting even in harsh environments
Dustproof and drip-proof performance with an improved protection rating of IP53 and -10°C low-temperature resistance
The camera has passed IPX3 or higher drip-proof testing, which is much stricter than the conventional IPX1, as well as dust-proof testing. It has achieved a high performance rating of IP53, a dustproof and drip-proof rating that allows for use in even harsher environments with peace of mind. The camera can be used in combination with a camera body that is dustproof, drip-proof, and low-temperature resistant, allowing photographers to continue shooting in rain, snow, and dusty environments with confidence.

Addition of Fluorine Coating
A fluorine coating has been added to the frontmost lens, which not only repels water, oil, and dirt, but also reduces friction. Even if dirt gets on the lens surface, it can be easily removed with a blower or cloth and you can continue shooting immediately.

- Various functions for macro photography and a wide range of other fields
Close-up shooting performance with a maximum magnification of 0.6x
With a minimum focusing distance of 20cm across the entire zoom range, wide-angle macro photography at the wide-angle end emphasizes perspective, while at the telephoto end, you can enjoy full-fledged close-up photography with a maximum magnification of 0.6x, which exceeds the half-macro level. The lens also supports depth composite mode for close-up photography, allowing you to take a wide variety of macro shots.

Fast and quiet AF with MSC mechanism
The compact and lightweight focusing unit consisting of two lens elements is driven by a linear motor-driven MSC (Movie and Still Compatible) mechanism to achieve fast and quiet autofocusing. This enables comfortable shooting of both still and moving images. The advanced control technology of the camera also supports the OM SYSTEM OM-1's continuous shooting at approximately 50 frames per second (AF/AE tracking).

Superior operability for quick switching of settings
The camera is equipped with a "manual focus clutch mechanism" that instantly switches to manual focus by pulling the focus ring toward you, and the L-Fn (Lens Function) button, which can be operated with a single action of the thumb. With the lens held in place, the user can quickly switch to the appropriate setting for the situation at hand.
