The EF70-200mm F4L IS USM, renowned for its mobility and high image quality, has undergone a major renewal after almost 12 years.

The dramatic improvement to 5.0 stops of IS performance expands the possibilities of handheld photography. While being compact and lightweight, it delivers performance worthy of an L lens.

We recommend this lens as a first white lens.

- Increased freedom of hand-held photography with IS performance of 5.0 stops

This is the first EF lens to achieve an image stabilization performance of 5.0 stops in shutter speed conversion. This expands the possibilities for hand-held shooting indoors and in dimly lit conditions, which until now could only be achieved with a tripod.

- Compatible with IS Mode 3

In this mode, when the shutter release is pressed halfway down, the camera maintains the same view in the viewfinder as when the IS is turned off, and image stabilization is applied only during exposure. This mode is ideal for sports and other intense and erratic movements, as it allows you to obtain an image with minimal camera shake while tracking movement through the viewfinder.

- Minimum focusing distance of 1 m to get closer to the subject even at the telephoto side

The minimum shooting distance has been shortened to 1m. Furthermore, the maximum magnification has been improved to 0.27x. This enables powerful close-up photography from a short distance even with a telephoto zoom lens. The bokeh effect unique to large-aperture telephoto lenses can be effectively utilized.

- Reduced flare and ghosting while maintaining the high image quality of L lenses

Inherits the proven optical system including one fluorite lens and two UD lenses. While maintaining the high resolution and high contrast image quality with minimal color blur, flare and ghosting have been reduced by reviewing the SSC and other coatings. The new lens also realizes more faithful color reproduction.

- Can be used under harsh conditions. Improved dustproof and drip-proof performance

Dustproof and drip-proof sealing construction is employed throughout. The front and back surfaces of the lens are coated with a fluorine coating that can be quickly wiped clean. The durability of the lens has also been improved to ensure high reliability.

The 9-blade circular aperture produces a natural and beautiful circular bokeh effect. It is ideal for portraits and night scenes.
