Basic Information

Product Name D6 Digital SLR Camera Black D6 [body only]
Model No. D6

Product Features

- High-density 105-point AF system with all points selectable by cross sensor [NEW]
All 105 focus points are cross-sensor and all points are selectable. The AF system can focus on the part of the subject you want to focus on without shifting the composition. Moreover, each of the focus points is arranged in a triple-sensor array with three rows of three focus points vertically and horizontally, covering an AF area 1.6 times denser than that of the D5. This enables even small subjects to be captured more reliably.

-4.5 EV AF for smooth and reliable focusing even in low-light conditions [NEW]
The newly developed Multi-CAM 37K autofocus sensor module pursues even lower noise. It achieves -4.5EV compatibility at the center focus point and -4EV compatibility at all other focus points*. This enables high-speed, high-precision AF shooting even in low-light conditions or with low-contrast subjects.

- Newly developed AF dedicated engine for even more advanced AF tracking of moving subjects [NEW]
The AF dedicated engine, which executes multiple processes in parallel with the sequence control microcomputer to achieve comprehensive acceleration of arithmetic processing and control, has been further enhanced. As a result, simultaneous distance measurement at all points is performed even during high-speed continuous shooting at approximately 14 frames/second*. The resulting defocusing information, which is 1.6 times greater than that of the D5, enables the camera to identify the main subject from its surroundings and keep it in focus in a stable manner. In particular, when the intensity of the “Response to Cross-Cutting” function is increased in AF Lock-On, it is now even easier to keep the desired position in focus.

- Advanced Scene Recognition System that also enables AF with priority on the pupil
The D6's various performance features have been further enhanced by the new dedicated AF engine, the EXPEED 6 image processing engine, and the Advanced Scene Recognition System that works in conjunction with these engines. In particular, the D6's face and upper body detection information, defocusing information, and motion detection information have improved the tracking performance of the subject's movement in the plane direction. In addition, for the first time in a digital SLR camera*, the camera supports the selection of a focus point that prioritizes the position of the pupil when shooting through the optical viewfinder. This makes it easier to capture a portrait-like shot of a person with the eyes in focus.
