Product Features
- LEICA DG VARIO-SUMMILUX" lens with an F1.7 maximum aperture that delivers image rendering performance equivalent to that of a large-aperture single focal length lens across the entire zoom range
The world's first*1 telephoto zoom lens to meet Leica's strict optical standards, the LEICA DG VARIO-SUMMILUX lens delivers the brightness of a large-aperture F1.7 "SUMMILUX" lens and outstanding image rendering performance across the entire zoom range, making the shallow depth of field of an F1.7 lens useful for large bokeh effects and for shooting in low light conditions without blurring the camera. The 11-group, 16-element lens construction, with one aspherical lens element, three ED lens elements, and one UHR lens element optimally positioned, achieves F1.7 brightness across the entire zoom range and high resolution performance equivalent to a single focal length lens. The lens covers a focal length range of 50mm to 100mm*2, allowing efficient shooting with a single lens without the need for multiple single focal length lenses. It is also ideal as a portrait zoom lens, providing both a high resolution of the focus area and beautiful bokeh effect that melts the background. The lens can produce impressive expressions with bokeh effect for both still and moving images.
- Minimum focusing distance of 0.31 m at the T-edge and maximum magnification of 0.42x at the T-edge*2 for close-up shooting performance
With a minimum focusing distance of 0.28m at 25mm at the W-edge and 0.31m at 50mm at the T-edge, and a maximum magnification of 0.42x*2 at 50mm at the T-edge, the lens enables close-up photography that expands the range of expression possible with telephoto zoom lenses. The large F1.7 aperture provides brightness and clarity, allowing photographers to get closer to their subjects for more impressive photographs and video expression. The focus clutch mechanism allows quick and intuitive switching between AF and MF modes, and the distance scale makes it easy to focus on the subject, providing the operability required for close-up photography.
- Superior Movie Shooting Performance and Mobility
The use of linear motors for focusing enables high-speed, high-precision, and quiet AF control and motion tracking performance, ensuring that the camera does not miss the movement of the target subject. The micro-step control of the aperture allows for smooth exposure changes even in shooting situations with luminance differences, enabling high quality video production with no uneven luminance. In addition, the camera body*3 can be used to change the fine focus ring rotation angle when MF linear is selected, allowing intuitive adjustment of the focus drive amount and fine focusing by rotation angle, assisting photographers to shoot in accordance with their intentions. Despite being equipped with a linear motor, the compact and lightweight specifications of the Micro Four Thirds system reduce the weight of the camera during movie shooting.
*1: As a telephoto zoom lens for interchangeable lens digital cameras
*2: 35mm format equivalent
*3: G-series cameras released after the DC-GH5M2
