- Equipped with a newly developed 35mm full-size CMOS sensor with an effective pixel count of approximately 30.4 megapixels. The newly developed 35mm full-size CMOS sensor with an effective pixel count of approximately 30.4 megapixels delivers even higher image quality than the previous model.

- Equipped with the DIGIC 6+ imaging engine, the camera achieves a maximum normal ISO sensitivity of ISO 32,000(*1), which is higher than the previous model. This enables high-sensitivity, high-quality photography even in dark environments. Furthermore, the combination of the DIGIC 6+ and a newly developed mirror vibration control system enables high-speed continuous shooting at a maximum of approximately 7 frames per second despite the high pixel count.

- The "Dual Pixel CMOS AF" enables a single pixel to perform both image capture and phase detection AF at the same time, providing high-speed AF with excellent tracking performance even during live-view shooting.

- DPRAW shooting," which adds dual-pixel information obtained from the image sensor, is available. After shooting, "resolution correction," "bokeh shift," and "ghost reduction" can be processed with Canon's proprietary RAW development software "Digital Photo Professional (Ver. 4.5)" (*2).

Equipped with superior functions equivalent to flagship models

- Equipped with the same 61-point High Density Reticle AF II as the EOS-1D X Mark II (released in April 2016), the camera's AF distance measurement area is vertically expanded compared to the previous model. The left and right AF measuring areas are expanded vertically by approximately 24%, while the center AF area is expanded vertically by approximately 8.6%.

- Of the 61 measuring points, the maximum number of cross points is 41, and the maximum number of dual cross points is 5(*3).

- All 61 points are compatible with F8 luminous flux, enabling AF at all distance measurement points even when the maximum aperture value of the lens is up to F8 during ultra-telephoto shooting using an extender (*4).

- Achieves a low-light limit of EV-3 when shooting through the viewfinder (one-shot AF, center f/2.8 distance measurement point). Highly accurate AF focusing is possible even in dark environments.

- For the first time in the EOS series, the Digital Lens Optimizer function corrects aberrations that cannot be corrected by conventional optical lens correction alone and corrects resolution degradation caused by low-pass filters during shooting. This function allows users to obtain higher resolution images without having to spend time and effort after shooting. In addition, like the flagship models, distortion and diffraction correction are also available at the time of shooting.

- The same 150,000-pixel RGB+IR metering sensor of the EOS 5Ds and EOS 5Ds R greatly improves the accuracy of scene analysis. It is now able to detect the subject's face and color, further improving metering, light control, auto white balance, and AF accuracy.

Enhanced video recording performance, especially for 4K (4096 x 2160) video

- The Dual Pixel CMOS AF enables smooth and fluid AF even during movie recording, and the touch panel-compatible LCD monitor allows quick selection of the AF frame. The touch panel-enabled LCD monitor enables quick selection of the AF frame.

- Capable of shooting movies in 4K (30p/25p). It is also possible to shoot movies in the digital cinema standard (4K/24p in DCI standard).

- Full HD/60p and HD/120p video recording suitable for slow motion video are also possible. The video recording format supports both MOV format, which is suitable for video production, and MP4 format, which is highly versatile for uploading to SNS.

Comfortable operability and high reliability

- The exterior cover is made of magnesium alloy for light weight and high rigidity.

- Sealing materials have been incorporated in the joints of the exterior cover, battery compartment lid, and card slot cover opening/closing parts, as well as in places where sealing materials have not been incorporated, such as the dial rotation axis, to minimize gaps between parts.

- The LCD monitor is touch-sensitive, enabling more intuitive shooting operations.

- While significantly evolving its functions and performance, the camera's exterior and mechanisms have been reviewed and structural innovations have enabled it to maintain robustness while weighing approximately 60 g less than previous models.

Wi-Fi (wireless communication)/NFC/GPS functions are also included.
