Product Features

The new "F1.4" added to the Art line.
Best-in-class optical performance, ideal for both starry and urban landscapes.

- Aberrations have been thoroughly addressed to achieve the highest level of performance in its class, with virtually no blurring or distortion.
The design know-how cultivated in the SIGMA 35mm F1.4 DG HSM | Art and 50mm F1.4 DG HSM | Art lenses. Advanced manufacturing technologies cultivated through extensive experience in wide-angle lens design. Sagittal coma flare, chromatic aberration, distortion, vignetting, etc. have been eliminated to achieve the highest level of performance in its class with virtually no blurring or distortion. The new "F1.4" series lenses in SIGMA's iconic Art line offer unparalleled optical performance, Enjoy the overwhelming optical performance of the new "F1.4" series, the latest addition to SIGMA's iconic Art line.

- Unparalleled Optical Performance Achieved by Extensive Know-How and State-of-the-Art Manufacturing Technology

- Thoroughly correcting aberrations that tend to occur with large-aperture lenses to achieve high descriptive performance
Aberrations are thoroughly corrected by making full use of the know-how accumulated through past lens development and the latest design technologies. The lens delivers overwhelmingly high image rendering performance with high resolution all the way to the periphery of the image. While pursuing resolution in the area in focus, consideration was also given to bokeh rendering. The lens delivers a blur-free, high-definition rendering from the maximum aperture, and natural bokeh expression is also possible.

- Corrects sagittal coma flare by making full use of optical know-how, ideal for starscapes and nightscapes
Sagittal coma flare is an aberration that tends to occur especially with large-aperture lenses. 24mm F1.4 DG HSM|Art has an aspherical lens at the very back of the lens and adjusts the angle of incidence of light, etc., in consideration of the lens power arrangement. The lens delivers high descriptive performance from the maximum aperture. The lens also minimizes blurring of point light sources on the periphery of the image, making it an excellent choice for astronomical and illumination photography.

- Optimal alignment of FLD/SLD lenses for good correction of chromatic aberration
An essential element in achieving high descriptive performance is the correction of aberrations. In particular, axial chromatic aberration and lateral chromatic aberration, which cannot be corrected even by image processing, must be corrected at the design stage. 24mm F1.4 DG HSM | Art employs FLD and SLD glass to thoroughly correct lateral chromatic aberration, which is noticeable at the periphery of the image. Furthermore, axial chromatic aberration is well corrected by lens power positioning. The lens is free from color blur and delivers high image quality across the entire shooting range, resulting in sharp, high-contrast images.

※FLD glass is an ultra-low dispersion glass of the highest standard with excellent transparency that has the same performance as fluorite, with an extremely low refractive index and high anomalous dispersion compared to conventional glass. This property is used to thoroughly eliminate residual chromatic aberration (secondary spectrum), which could not be eliminated by conventional lenses, to achieve extremely sharp, high-contrast images.

- Flare and Ghosting
Thorough measures against flare and ghosting were taken from the initial stage of lens design, and the lens is designed to be less susceptible to strong incident light, such as backlighting. The Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting and provides high-contrast images even when shooting in backlit conditions. The included floral hood effectively cuts harmful light that can adversely affect the lens's rendering and prevents internal reflections from occurring.

- Special Low Dispersion Glass
Chromatic aberration is a phenomenon in which the refractive index of glass differs according to the wavelength of light, causing the image formation point to shift for each color. This phenomenon tends to appear strongly in telephoto lenses and is a cause of image quality deterioration. To eliminate this chromatic aberration, a convex lens with a small difference in refractive index by color was combined with a concave lens with a large difference in refractive index by color to suppress axial chromatic aberration, but this still left a small amount of residual chromatic aberration = secondary spectrum. To thoroughly eliminate residual chromatic aberration (secondary spectrum), which could not be eliminated with conventional lenses, Sigma has introduced special low-dispersion glass with high correction capability for secondary spectrum in many of its lens products to achieve higher performance. Currently, Sigma's proprietary special low-dispersion glass comes in three types: ELD (Extraordinary Low Dispersion) glass, SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass, and FLD ("F" Low Dispersion) glass. FLD ("F" Low Dispersion) glass. FLD glass, in particular, is an ultra-low dispersion glass with excellent transmittance, with extremely low dispersion and performance equivalent to that of "fluorite," which has high anomalous dispersion. The effective use of these glasses and the appropriate power arrangement enable us to minimize residual chromatic aberration and achieve excellent image rendering performance.

- Circular Aperture
A 9-blade circular aperture is used. When shooting against a point light source such as illumination or light shining on water, a circular bokeh effect can be obtained even when using an aperture near maximum aperture.

- Sophisticated materials, usability, and functionality

- Designed with a high degree of integration in pursuit of essential functions for the photographer.
The new lens line features a rubber connection for the attached hood. The lens cap and AF/MF switch have also been completely redesigned to meet the intuitive demands of the photographer, and the essential functions of the equipment have been thoroughly pursued. The internal mechanism is equipped with the Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) for faster and quieter AF speed, and the AF algorithm has been improved for smoother AF. Full-time manual focusing is also available, allowing fine-tuning of the focus simply by turning the focus ring after focusing. In addition, a brass mount is used for high precision and robustness. To ensure that the lens can withstand long-term use, surface treatment has been applied to increase its strength, resulting in high-quality lens manufacturing. The internal parts are also appropriately arranged, including TSC (Thermally Stable Composite), a new composite material that has a high affinity with metal parts, to realize high-precision manufacturing. In addition, the last three digits of the year the lens was released are engraved on the lens barrel. This makes it possible to identify each year of release.
