Product Features

- World's thinnest*1 pancake zoom lens
This standard 3x zoom lens covers a focal range equivalent to 28-84mm in 35mm format. Compared to the "M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 14-42mm F3.5-5.6IIR," the "M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 17mm F2.8" pancake lens is less than half as long at 22.5mm, and weighs only 93g, achieving an overwhelmingly compact and lightweight design that can be called a pancake zoom lens The compactness of the lens is due to the use of a zoom position encoder.
The compact size was achieved through a combination of the latest technologies, including a change from a linear to a rotatable zoom position encoder, a review of the space available when the lens is sunk, a change in the position of the aperture mechanism, and a review of the optical system.

- ZUIKO QUALITY condensed in a compact body
In order to maintain the high image quality of the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 14-42mm F3.5-5.6IIR, which has been well-received, the ZUIKO DIGITAL 14-42mm F3.5-5.6IIR has been further downsized with almost the same lens configuration. In order to reduce the size while maintaining image quality, Super HR lenses, ED lenses, and three aspherical lenses are effectively used to produce sharp images not only in the center but also on the periphery.

- Thoroughly Pursued Usability
The camera is equipped with a two-step variable-speed (*2) zoom function that is performed by the angle of rotation of the zoom ring. The focus ring and zoom ring are positioned around the entire circumference of the lens to facilitate manual focusing and zooming no matter how the camera is held. In addition, the lens is linked to the on/off switch of the camera body to move from the retracted position to the shooting position. The smooth zooming characteristic of motorized zooming is also ideal for movie shooting.

- Maximum magnification equivalent to 0.45x in 35mm format (0.225x)
With a minimum focusing distance of 20cm at the wide end and 25cm at the telephoto end, this product allows photographers to get even closer than the "M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 14-42mm F3.5-5.6IIR". The maximum magnification is therefore equivalent to 0.45x (0.225x) on a 35mm film format, the largest among standard zoom lenses in the same class. In combination with the MCON-P02 macro converter lens (sold separately), the maximum magnification is equivalent to 0.762x (0.381x) on a 35mm film format, which exceeds the macro mode (0.36x) of the "M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 12-50mm F3.5-6.3 EZ". The first interchangeable lens with automatic open/close function.

- First interchangeable lens with an automatic lens cap (sold separately)
The LC-37C, the first automatic lens cap for Olympus interchangeable lens cameras, is available as a dedicated accessory (sold separately). The cap protects the lens from dust and scratches when the body power is turned off, and instantly turns the camera into shooting mode when the body is turned on, making it even more suitable for quick shooting such as snapshots. The lens cap no longer needs to be attached or removed, eliminating the risk of losing it. The lens cap is designed to match the lens body.

*1: Length when the lens is retracted. As an interchangeable lens standard zoom lens.
*2: For still images only. Zooming speed is constant during movie shooting.
