- High dimension of beautifully oozing bokeh and high resolution performance
Beautifully blurred bokeh is a type of bokeh that melts from the focus plane to the out-of-focus plane, smoothly depicting the background and giving the main subject, such as a person, a greater sense of three-dimensionality.
To achieve beautifully blurred bokeh, we use an aberration measuring instrument that measures bokeh at the aberration level. The ultra-precise aberration measuring instrument, created using high-precision measurement technology cultivated through the development of cutting-edge microscopes, enables us not only to develop lenses that minimize aberrations, but also to develop lenses that retain optimal aberrations for the quality of beautiful bokeh.

The M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 17mm F1.2 PRO is equipped with the newly developed ED-DSA lens, which is a combination of an ED (special low-dispersion) lens and a DSA lens (a large aspherical lens with an extremely large thickness ratio between the center and periphery of the lens) that Olympus was the first in the world to successfully mass produce. The ED-DSA lens has enabled Olympus to significantly reduce the number of lenses and succeeded in reducing the weight. The effective arrangement of the 15 elements in 11 groups achieves high resolution performance.
In addition, as with the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 25mm F1.2 PRO, the effective use of the “Z Coating Nano” coating technology, which delivers a clear, bright image, significantly reduces ghosting and flare even when shooting in backlit conditions.

Despite the large aperture of the lens, the MSC (Movie and Still Compatible) mechanism is employed to achieve fast and quiet focusing by using a lightweight focusing unit. Since the image phase detection AF has no limit to the AF light flux, when combined with the OM-D E-M1 Mark II, the 121-point all-cross image phase detection AF system can focus on a wide range of subjects with high precision, even when an F1.2 large-aperture lens is mounted.
The use of face-priority and pupil-priority AF, which has been highly acclaimed by professional photographers, is also an effective tool for portrait photography that takes advantage of the bokeh created by a large aperture lens.

The F1.2 large aperture single focal length series has achieved an overwhelmingly compact and lightweight system that is unrivaled by other companies.
The same operability is achieved by keeping the overall length and maximum diameter almost the same size. Furthermore, by unifying the filter diameters, the same lens filters, such as ND and PL filters, can be used.
The F1.2 large aperture single focal length series is dustproof, drip-proof, and resistant to low temperatures (-10°C) common to the “M.ZUIKO PRO” series, making it possible to shoot in all weather conditions.

The M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 17mm F1.2 PRO has a minimum focusing distance of 20cm and a maximum magnification of 0.15x (0.3x in 35mm film format), and like the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 17mm F1.2 PRO, has top-class close-up shooting capability.

Usability that meets the demands of professional photographers. The forward-positioned focus ring is comfortable to operate even when used with the OM-D E-M1 Mark II, which has a larger grip, and the L-Fn button is placed on a gently curved surface for smooth access.
