- High "dustproof and drip-proof" performance, equipped with a dedicated protector

The camera is designed to be dustproof and drip-proof, in anticipation of situations in which it is required to perform well in advanced and harsh photographic environments. The front lens is coated with a water and stain repellent coating that easily wipes away water droplets and prevents oil and grease from adhering to the lens. This makes it possible to shoot under a variety of conditions, such as in the rain or near water where splashes of spray are likely to occur. A dedicated protector LPT-11 (sold separately) can also be attached to the front of the camera. This minimizes damage during shooting and maintenance.

- Magnesium body

For a super-telephoto lens with a heavy feel, you want something as light as possible, so the 500mm F4 DG OS HSM Sports uses a magnesium alloy for the lens barrel, making it both light and robust. The lens barrel is made of magnesium alloy, which is both lightweight and robust, allowing for lightweight shooting.

- Carbon Hood

A lightweight and robust carbon lens hood is used. This hood reduces the overall weight of the lens, while at the same time making it suitable for demanding shooting.

- Tripod mount with 90-degree click

Since monopods and tripods are often used for ultra-telephoto shooting, a large and stable tripod mount* is adopted, and electroless nickel-plated parts are used to realize dignified and durable 90-degree click stops, facilitating changes in shooting position between vertical and horizontal positions. In addition, the 90-degree click can be easily released with the flick of a switch when a subtle angle adjustment is required in the vicinity of the click position. Furthermore, a special strap* is available for the tripod mount. It is also possible to carry the camera without placing a burden on the camera's mount. The TS-81 Lens Foot (sold separately) can also be attached, making it possible to mount a lens directly on an Arca-Swiss type head or clamp. The optimum rail length allows for adjustment to the optimum weight balance.

The tripod mount cannot be removed from the lens. The strap is also included.

- Highest level of optical performance

Two FLD glass elements and one SLD glass element are used. Spherical aberration and axial chromatic aberration are well corrected considering the power configuration of the lens. The lens also has excellent correction of lateral chromatic aberration on the periphery of the image, which is a particular concern in the telephoto range, achieving the highest level of optical performance in its class. The lens delivers high image rendering performance even when a teleconverter (sold separately) is attached.

- Equipped with a drop-in circular polarizing filter (sold separately)

A rear-loading WR protector is included as standard equipment. The filter in the holder is removable, allowing you to choose from a variety of filter types. A drop-in circular polarizing filter (RCP-11) (sold separately) is also provided. The filter can be rotated from the outside even when it is attached to the lens.

- Adoption of Intelligent OS image stabilization algorithm

The camera is equipped with an OS (Optical Stabilizer) mechanism that employs an acceleration sensor to provide highly accurate image stabilization. Correction of approximately 4 stops is possible. The camera is equipped with two correction modes: image stabilization mode 1, which is suitable for general shooting, and image stabilization mode 2, which is ideal for streaming shots such as motor sports. In Mode 2, an acceleration sensor and the new Intelligent OS image stabilization algorithm enable effective image stabilization even when the camera is moved vertically or diagonally, regardless of the horizontal or vertical position of the composition, so that the movement of the subject can be expressed without losing the effect of fluid shooting.

- "Manual Override" is equipped. Two full-time manual modes can be switched

In addition to AF/MF, a manual override (ManualOverride) switch has been added to the focus mode selection switch.When the switch is set to the MO position, the camera can switch to manual focus by rotating the focus ring even during continuous AF; normal full-time manual focus is possible in the AF position.By using the SIGMA USB DOCK (sold separately), it is possible to change the sensitivity at which the camera switches to manual focus when used in the MO position.

- Optimized AF" for even faster and quieter focusing

The latest ultrasonic motor, HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor), delivers faster and quieter AF speed. In addition, the drive algorithm has been substantially revised to improve the focus rate of the Continuous AF (AF-C).
