- High-resolution, high-contrast macro lens with equal magnification (equivalent to 2x magnification in 35mm film format)
This single focal length, medium telephoto macro lens boasts excellent close-up shooting performance with a minimum focusing distance of 19cm and an equal magnification. In order to maintain high descriptive performance from distant to equal magnification macro photography, a floating-type inner-focus AF mechanism with three drive systems has been adopted. The lens configuration consists of an ED (extra-low dispersion) lens and an HR (high refractive index) lens in the fixed group and an HR lens and an E-HR (ultra-high refractive index) lens in the focus group to thoroughly eliminate color blurring that is often noticeable with telephoto macro lenses. As a result, the lens maintains high resolution and high contrast from infinity to the minimum focusing distance and from the center to the periphery of the image, while delivering sharp image performance from the maximum aperture.

- Beautiful circular bokeh with minimal aperture erosion in the macro shooting range
To obtain a beautiful circular bokeh effect, it is necessary to minimize the occurrence of aperture erosion as much as possible, in addition to making the aperture circular in shape. Aperture eclipse is a phenomenon in which light incident at an angle to the optical axis causes the peripheral rays of light to be restricted by the lens diameter before and after the aperture, resulting in an oval or angular shape like a rugby ball instead of a beautiful circular shape in the periphery of the image. This lens allows light rays to pass through to the periphery of the image, thereby minimizing the occurrence of aperture erosion and ensuring a beautiful circular bokeh shape, especially in the macro photography range. The optical design also eliminates the occurrence of two-line bokeh, in which the bokeh has outlines, and edge coloration caused by chromatic aberration.

Olympus' proprietary ZERO (Zuiko Extra-low Reflection Optical) coating is applied to the lens surface to thoroughly eliminate ghosting and flare, which have been difficult to prevent in the past, by reducing the reflectance at wavelengths between 450 and 650 nm to half that of conventional coatings. The ZERO (Zuiko Extra-low Reflection Optical) coating, an Olympus original, reduces the reflectance at 650 nm to half that of conventional lenses.
