Equipped with the "Nano USM" ultrasonic motor
- Canon's proprietary "Nano USM," which delivers faster AF, is installed in this product following the EF-S18-135mm F3.5-5.6 IS USM (released in March 2016). Compared to the previous model, the "Nano USM" significantly improves the driving speed of the focus lens during still image shooting and realizes smooth and fluid AF during movie shooting.
- The actuator of the "nano USM" uses a chip-shaped, thin, compact transducer that combines a piezoelectric ceramic element and a metal elastic body, enabling more efficient use of electrical energy to drive the lens, and thus providing high driving force despite its small size.
Adoption of an LCD screen that displays a variety of information and a premium design
- In addition to the shooting distance and depth of field, the EF lens series is the first in the EF series to feature an LCD screen that displays a variety of shooting-related information, including focal length and the amount of lens shake (the amount of angular shake between the camera and lens in the vertical and horizontal directions). This improves the convenience of shooting.
- The EF series lenses feature a sophisticated design that includes a flat switch panel that feels integrated with the camera body, a high-grade glossy black ring, and a pear-shaped finish.
High image quality with improved optical performance and IS (Image Stabilization System)
- The optimum arrangement of the lens optics, consisting of 17 elements in 12 groups, achieves high image quality throughout the entire image range, even to the periphery of the image.
- The use of UD lenses with special optics suppresses lateral chromatic aberration and delivers high image quality with minimal color blur.
- Optimal IS control significantly improves the image stabilization performance from 2.5 shutter speed steps to 4 steps* in terms of shutter speed.
- The minimum focusing distance has been shortened from 1.5m to 1.2m. This allows photographers to get even closer to their subjects.
