Product Features

- 800mm focal length to capture subjects more dynamically

The NIKKOR Z 800mm f/6.3 VR S has the longest focal length among NIKKOR Z lenses*1 at 800mm, allowing you to capture distant subjects such as aircraft and wild birds with dynamic imaging expression. When the image capture range is set to DX (24 x 16), the angle of view is equivalent to a focal length of 1200mm, allowing you to capture even larger subjects. The focal length can be extended to 1120mm and 1600mm by attaching a teleconverter (Z TELECONVERTER TC-1.4x or Z TELECONVERTER TC-2.0x, both sold separately*2). 2, respectively, to maintain stable high optical performance even when a teleconverter is attached. When shooting movies with the Z 9, it is possible to cut out an image equivalent to approximately 2.3 times the focal length*3 without attaching a teleconverter, ensuring that even distant subjects can be captured in high image quality for highly satisfying images.

*1: As of April 6, 2022.

*2: Depending on the subject, ambient brightness, and focus point location, the autofocus may have difficulty focusing or the focus aid may flicker.

*3: When [Image Size/Frame Rate] is set to [3840 x 2160 120p], [3840 x 2160 100p], [1920 x 1080 120p], or [1920 x 1080 100p] in Z 9, setting [Image Range Setting] to [DX] or installing a DX lens will result in an FX When [Imaging Range Setting] is set to [DX] or a DX lens is attached, the angle of view is equivalent to approximately 2.3 times the focal length of the FX format.

- Compact and lightweight body made possible by the use of PF lenses

The NIKKOR Z is the first NIKKOR Z lens to use a Phase Fresnel (PF) lens, achieving a significant reduction in size and weight. PF lenses use the diffraction phenomenon of light to achieve a high chromatic aberration correction capability. As a result, the number of lenses used can be reduced overall, contributing to a significant reduction in size and weight. With a weight of only about 2385g and a length of about 385mm, the lens reduces the burden of long hours of photography and carrying, making bird photography in mountainous areas more comfortable.

- PF (Phase Fresnel) Lens

The PF (Phase Fresnel) lens corrects chromatic aberration using the diffraction phenomenon of light, and the combination of a PF element and an ordinary glass lens provides excellent chromatic aberration correction capability, This enables the lens to be lightweight.

- Comfortable lens handling with excellent weight balance

For smooth handling of super-telephoto lenses, it is particularly important to have the proper weight balance of the lens, and with the NIKKOR Z 800mm f/6.3 VR S, the center of gravity of the lens has been moved closer to the body to reduce weight and improve the weight balance. This makes the weight of the lens less of an issue when swinging the camera from side to side, allowing for smooth shooting.

- High optical performance that can only be achieved with S-Line lenses

Along with the ultra-telephoto 800mm focal length, the S-Line lens delivers the high optical performance that only an S-Line lens can deliver, having met rigorous quality standards based on advanced design concepts. In addition to a single PF lens element that contributes to a significant reduction in size and weight, the lens uses a single SR lens element that effectively suppresses chromatic aberration on axis and three ED lens elements. As a result, the lens delivers excellent resolution comparable to that of the AF-S NIKKOR 800mm f/5.6E FL ED VR and can accurately depict even the finest feathers of wild birds at a distance. In addition to the use of the acclaimed nano crystal coat, ghosting has been reduced by optimizing the shape and placement of the PF lens. This delivers crisp, clear images even under harsh lighting conditions.

- Vibration Reduction (VR) mechanism with 5.0 stops* of image stabilization effect

The lens-shift type VR mechanism provides an excellent image stabilization effect of 5.0 stops (in accordance with CIPA standards). This provides peace of mind even when shooting ultra-telephoto shots or in low-light situations where camera shake is likely to occur. In combination with the Z 9, Synchro VR, in which the sensor-shift VR in the camera body and lens-shift VR in the lens are linked, provides an image stabilization performance of 5.5 stops* (CIPA standard compliant).

*When using [NORMAL] mode with a mirrorless camera equipped with a 35mm film size equivalent image sensor.

- Ease of use designed for professional use

To make holding the lens more comfortable, the lens barrel surface has been extensively coated with a non-slip rubber coating. In addition, knurling and small indentations help to make operations easier without visual confirmation. In addition, a variety of functions can be assigned to the function buttons (L-Fn/L-Fn2) on the lens version to suit your preference. A lens hood HB-104 with an improved locking mechanism that can be removed with one hand is also included. With its high operability and customizability, professional photographers can use this lens with confidence.
