The TV anime "The Apothecary Diaries" has unveiled the key visual (KV) and promotional video (PV) for the second cour of its second season, which is set to begin airing on April 4, 2025. The opening theme will be "Kusushiki" by Mrs. GREEN APPLE, and the ending theme will be "Hitorigoto" by Omoinotake.
Set in the imperial court, the series follows Maomao, a young apothecary who solves various complex cases under the orders of the eunuch Jinshi. The original novel series has surpassed 33 million copies in circulation. The anime adaptation began airing in October 2023, consistently ranking high on various streaming platforms. The second season commenced on January 10, 2025, continuing to capture audience interest.
In episode 36, titled "Hua Ru Yue," which aired on March 28, 2025, Jinshi's true identity was revealed to the audience. However, the reasons behind the attempts on his life and the lingering dark clouds within the imperial court remain unresolved as the first cour concludes. The second cour picks up immediately on April 4, 2025.
The new key visual depicts Maomao being led away through a snowstorm, her hands bound, yet her gaze remains steadfast, hinting at upcoming trials she will face.
The promotional video highlights several plot points:
- The introduction of abortifacient ingredients smuggled into the imperial court via foreign caravans.
- Malevolence and resentment lingering since the previous emperor's reign.
- Renewed attempts on Jinshi's life.
As the story unfolds, the true nature of the malice affecting the imperial court, the emperor, and the consorts will be revealed. Jinshi faces new trials and decisions, while Maomao's sudden disappearance adds to the turmoil, leading to events that could shake the nation. All previous incidents begin to connect, unveiling the true "poison" that has been quietly circulating within the imperial court.
Both the opening and ending themes are set to be available for streaming starting April 5, 2025, at 12:00 AM. Additionally, the non-credit opening sequence will be released on April 4 at 6:00 PM, followed by the non-credit ending sequence at 11:30 PM.
Furthermore, a content calendar and an April broadcast and event schedule have been released, offering fans a comprehensive guide to upcoming episodes and related events.
