Product Features
- Standard-range zoom, F2.8 brightness, and sharpness in an overwhelmingly compact and lightweight body
A palm-sized, large-aperture standard zoom lens you can carry with you every day
Introducing the 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN Contemporary, Sigma's first APS-C size mirrorless-exclusive zoom lens.
The lens features an easy-to-use zoom range of 27-75mm (35mm film format equivalent), a brightness of F2.8 that allows you to enjoy bokeh expressions, and sharp images achieved by the latest optical design technologies, all in an overwhelmingly compact and lightweight body. With a minimum focusing distance of 12.1cm and a magnification ratio of 1:2.8*1, you can take advantage of the compact shooting system, such as shooting close to your subject.
The agile and quiet AF using a stepping motor is also ideal for movie shooting. The lightweight photographic equipment can be used in a variety of styles, including hand-held and gimbal shooting, regardless of the weight of the equipment.
The compact, lightweight, and bright standard zoom lens is ideal for a variety of shooting situations, from your first interchangeable lens to a sub-lens*2 for a full-size camera, as well as a lens for video shooting. The palm-sized large-aperture standard zoom lens maximizes your photographic pleasure.
*1 Minimum focusing distance and magnification are both at the wide end.
*2 Please switch to APS-C format for use with a full-size camera.
- A large-aperture F2.8 full-aperture standard zoom lens that delivers sharp images
The easy-to-use zoom lens covers a range of 27mm to 75mm in 35mm format and has a brightness of F2.8 with no change in F value throughout the entire zoom range. The short flange back allows for a high degree of freedom in design and the use of optical compensation functions on the camera side, the number of lenses has been minimized using the latest optical design technology, and three high-precision glass-molded aspherical lenses made possible by Sigma's only production facility in Aizu, Japan, give the lens a size that is unimaginable given its specs. The lens is so small and lightweight that it is hard to imagine the size of the lens.
With a minimum focusing distance of 12.1 cm and a magnification ratio of 1:2.8*, the compact shooting system allows photographers to shoot freely without being restricted by the distance to the subject.
In terms of image creation, the large F2.8 aperture allows the photographer to enjoy bokeh expression while at the same time achieving a sharp image of the in-focus area. The compact shooting system allows the photographer to enjoy the full pleasure of photography.
*Minimum focusing distance and magnification are both at the wide end.
- An overwhelmingly compact and lightweight body ideal for mirrorless camera systems
The main feature of the 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN Contemporary is its overwhelmingly compact and lightweight body that maximizes the excellent portability and advantages of APS-C mirrorless cameras.
Despite its large aperture of F2.8, it is the smallest and lightest in its class*1 with a maximum diameter of 65.4mm, length of 74.5mm, and weight of 290g*2. This makes the large-aperture standard zoom easy to carry around with you in your daily life.
Because of its compact and lightweight body, the materials and construction of its parts have been carefully selected. Polycarbonate TSC (Thermally Stable Composite), which has a thermal shrinkage rate similar to that of aluminum, is used in appropriate locations to ensure stable performance, good feel, and light weight even in environments with temperature fluctuations. The use of metal in some parts of the internal structure ensures thinner parts and a high rigidity, and also ensures sturdiness and a light operational feel that can withstand daily use.
*1 Figures are for L-mount.
*2 AF-compatible, for APS-C mirrorless cameras, as a zoom lens with a f/2.8 aperture (SIGMA survey, October 2021)
- Suitable for Various Shooting Situations
A stepping motor is used as the AF actuator. The agile and quiet AF is ideal for both still and moving image shooting. Since the shooting equipment can be kept compact and lightweight, it can be flexibly used in all situations, including hand-held shooting, shooting with gimbals, one-man operation video shooting, and Vlog shooting, which require a high level of mobility.
When combined with the "pocketable full-frame" SIGMA fp, the lens weighs only 712 g, making it useful as a sub-lens for full-frame cameras when you want to minimize your luggage.
The 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN Contemporary is a compact, lightweight, high-performance lens with a large aperture that can be used in a wide variety of shooting situations, from entry-level mirrorless SLR photography to video shooting, or in combination with a full-frame camera.
