- Zoom lens with a maximum length of 1200mm*1 and a maximum length of 2400mm*1 when used with the 2x teleconverter
The lens alone is equivalent to 300-1200mm*1, and with the optional M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 1.4x Teleconverter MC-14 and M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 2x Teleconverter MC-20, the lens is also compatible with the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 1.4x Teleconverter MC-14 and M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 2x Teleconverter MC-20, giving an equivalent of 600-2400mm*1 when the MC-20 teleconverter is attached. When the MC-20 teleconverter is attached, the lens has a focal length equivalent to 600-2400mm*1. This enables overwhelming ultra-telephoto shooting, which will greatly contribute to nature field photography of wild birds, animals, insects, and other subjects that are difficult to approach. The ability to take large pictures of subjects is effective in creating high quality images without the need for cropping. The wide 4x zoom range, which provides clear and high resolution throughout the entire range, is also very useful for creating compositions in the field of photography by adjusting the angle of view.

The lens is equipped with an in-lens image stabilization mechanism that provides up to 7 stops*2 of image stabilization when 5-axis Synchro Image Stabilization is enabled, which is coordinated with the camera's in-body image stabilization, and up to 6 stops*3 when the lens is used alone. This enables stable hand-held shooting even in ultra-telephoto shooting and long-second shooting in dimly lit areas where camera shake tends to occur, allowing photographers to concentrate on shooting in the nature field without a tripod. The camera's IPX1 splashproof and dustproof design makes it safe to use in the rain or in situations where it may be splashed by water. The front lens is coated with a fluorine coating, so even if it gets contaminated with raindrops, dust, or dirt, a light wipe is all that is needed to remove it and resume shooting immediately.

The zoom ring torque can be set to two levels, S (Smooth) and T (Tight), using the zoom torque/lock switch, allowing adjustment according to the shooting scene. L (Lock) can also be selected to lock the ring at the wide end. In addition to the zoom ring operation, the camera also supports linear zoom operation for quick zooming. In addition, the camera is equipped with a "focus limit switch," "focus switch," "IS switch," and "L-Fn (Lens Function) button" to support comfortable shooting.
The lens offers excellent close-up shooting performance with a minimum focusing distance of 0.56m at the wide end and 2.8m at the telephoto end, and a maximum magnification of 0.7x*1 at the wide end and 0.39x*1 at the telephoto end.
While telephoto lenses are ideal for shooting distant subjects, this lens can also be used as an excellent tele macro lens for capturing small subjects such as flowers and insects.
When used in combination with a teleconverter, the lens can also be used as a macro lens, further expanding your shooting range in the outdoor field.
The lens also supports "depth composite mode," in which multiple shots are taken at different focus points and combined into a single image with a wider range of subjects in focus.
